Stephanie MessecarWhat I love about myself in this chapter of my life is that I am finally learning how to let go. Let go of the past, not entirely but mostly, let go of things I cannot control, and let the pieces fall as they may. I have always cared too much and too deeply and tried too hard to make sure everyone was happy losing myself along the way. I will speak up and stop being polite because it’s the right thing to do. You need to know when it’s the right thing to do and its not the right thing to do if you are being devalued or disrespected! So, in this chapter of my life book, I am finally alive!
You had your grip around my throat

Instead, I fought back to breathe

Stephanie Messecar15 and pregnant to a monster all because I was trying to escape the pain of my horrific childhood of emotional, mental, and sexual abuse. I allowed myself to get manipulated and trapped time and time again. Even though I was the last person everyone thought would get pregnant including myself, it happened and everyone told me I was messing up my life but I tell you what. Having my kid was my saving grace and likely changed my path for the better. Yes, I continued to make many terrible and embarrassing mistakes along the way but I would come out strong and rise above all that attempted to pull me down into the trenches. I moved from house to house and tried to date after leaving his biological father to find myself with the wrong types over and over again and creating situations for myself that would only destroy me and my son if I allowed it to. I got accepted to modeling and I couldn’t afford my portfolio. I considered joining the Air Force and couldn’t imagine leaving my son that long for training. I worked dead-end jobs over and over and then I gave up, again. I felt defeated. I started thinking, maybe they were right. I worked in a pizzeria with a pedophile boss who would later make the news. But then finally, I would meet a group of people who would help me see my true and worthy self. They didn’t see me as a person young and dumb but encouraged me to keep going and to fight for my future; our future (with my son). So, I did just that. I no longer entertained the idea of needing a man to make my family complete. Instead, I worked full-time as a bartender, went to college full-time, received public assistance, and was a mom full-time while juggling my personal life. I would meet my husband in college, get pregnant twice, then get married. That’s 3 boys and a husband with a college degree! Now I am an office manager of 13 years, and I own my home. I never thought this would ever be my life. Our oldest (27) is getting married to his high school sweetheart of the 9th grade in August (no kids), our middle son (20) is graduated and figuring out his path in life (no kids) and our baby son (17) is a senior in high school, no kids. My point is, I have had more trauma, pain, and disappointment than anyone should have so young. It started in my mother’s womb and carried on for far too long and then I allowed more along the way until I snapped out of the cycle and said no more. I will not allow this to be my life. I deserve and want better. I had a support system and I had dreams. While some of my dreams didn’t happen ultimately my big dream did. All because I didn’t give up and continued chasing my dreams. Mike Tyson said “I’m a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds.” My dream, my ultimate dream; health, family, success, love, support, respect, compassion, and understanding. I may have not been able to grab one star and I know I reached for the handful of clouds but boy I tell ya. I have all the stars in the universe right here with me!

A lot of artists are scared Artificial Intelligence will replace them but as an Artist, I have found it to be a useful tool. I’m a writer and when I was younger, I’d draw characters and scenes for my stories to inspire me and help create the plot. Lately I’ve been using AI to draw my characters and sometimes it comes up with wild ideas and I incorporate this in my stories. I invite every artist to not be afraid of A.I., but to see it as partner in helping you become a better artist, I even created an AI instagram model to help promote my company. I’m also a filmmaker and working with AI to create a movie using AI and human actors. Follow Your Dreams, Drew ZuhoskyOn various classic episodes of The Simpsons, Homer’s adventure of the week will sometimes become his lifelong dream, only for Marge to tell him that his lifelong dream was something different entirely and say that he’s already done it.
Example: In Colonel Homer (1992), Homer becomes the manager of a country/western starlet named Lurleen Lumpkin (voiced by guest actor Beverly D’Angelo) and proclaims that it’s been his lifelong dream. Marge’s retort: “Your boyhood dream was to eat the world’s biggest hoagie, and you did it at the county fair last year. Remember?”
Anyway, I bring this up because yesterday, I had my annual meeting with my home health aid and her supervisor, during which time the topic of lifelong dreams came up. I mentioned that my lifelong dream has been to attend an event at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena.My home health aid wondered if there were any events held at that venue aside from the Rose Bowl Game on New Year’s Day, to which I mentioned that the stadium is also UCLA’s home stadium for football and that they have flea markets in the stadium parking lots every so often (according to Google, the next Rose Bowl Flea Market is scheduled to take place in March.)
Now, make no mistake: Although I want to attend an event at the Rose Bowl, by no means am I interested in attending a flea market. I want to see a game there. Every time I see a telecast of a sporting event from that stadium, it takes me back to the times I was a bright-eyed little boy watching the Rose Bowl Game on ABC with Keith Jackson on the call.
It’s my hope that one day, this lifelong dream turns into reality.

Thinking about my goals for the new year makes me crouch in my seat when I should sit up straight proud because I got there
my brain BURSTS mulling over ANY AND EVERY GOAL so I take this time to look at them as a WHOLE
What do I have to do to complete this puzzle piece that is comprised of EVERY SINGLE GOAL
Being CONFIDENT and PROUD of what I have done should give me all the reason to continue to strive for SUCCESS this season
There is truly no reason why 2024 can NOT be a BREAKTHROUGH season
As I invision proceeding and SUCCEEDING in life the reason I haven’t had my break through moment is easy
My potential is like the AIR you can NEVER have too much to spare
I don’t dare to prepare to jump into the limit-LESS air BUT I am AFRAID of that STARE or smile that will inevitably be there (at least according to ME) to COMPARE
If I dare to run the race that is LIFE and I WIN I will FOREVER WONDER if crossing that finish line FIRST was FAIR
I think about EVERYONE ELSE who CAN be there
Most certainly the guy with the limp is NOT supposed to be there (or so MYSELF thinks)
But I tell myself if I do NOT run the race (LIFE) like I BELONG it will only be UN-used air and WASTED air just means in the end I did NOT care and I MYSELF CARE
So in 2024 I DARE to jump INTO MY limit-LESS AIR!

Well, how about this…
To take all the things that are happening, and the things that actually happened, and then acknowledge the teachings that they are revealing, and reflect everyday, every experience you’ve observed, utilizing reachable goals or ambitions, like, learning a language, and acknowledging opportunities given, or actively offering gratitude or appreciation, and learning something for our routine that will train the ways that we experience everything, even negativity, to teach yourself the ways that we thrive through these waves will take the willpower that’s within, to then work towards the world that we want to watch evolve within eachothers worlds, then, to witness everyone experiencing new things that you’d find outside of usual realities.So what’s my goals for the new year?
To learn why I’ve been getting these life lessons and why life has blessed them, to start meditating daily, para aprender más español, to see the offered opportunities as a port of unity that can help transform the views I see and want to see, to show gratitude for the small things in life, and appreciate all that life has to offer, to get disciplined with a healthy daily routine of eating and sleeping, and to start revealing the new styles of writing I’ve been blessed to find while trying to realign my mind, this poetry of acronyms that I like to call aftonyms, or aftonymbles, which is aftons scrambled acronyms, which is how i answered this question in the previous paragraph, and to hopefully inspire someone to try it as well. Also to sell atleast 100 of my books of poems called Poetic Diabetic, and to finish my second one called Aftonyms.Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a beautiful year!

Mel TaulMy mind as the farmer, and, my body as the land…This year, we both get a break; It is my fallow year. I’ve spent years planning, sewing, praying for rain, and harvesting my crops; moving through life as if it were a check off list to turn in once completed. I, like soil, am depleted. I will meet the weather patterns with ease, knowing I don’t depend on the rain. This year, I am a plot of land going untouched. I am reclaiming rest, remembering- it is work. I am gifting myself time to get back to my organic matter. I will accept the pauses that come along with the fallow; unlike lost income- my health cannot be replaced. I trust with time, the earth will replenish my soil. I will welcome each sunrise, simply grateful to see another day. I will accept droughts, floods, pests, and the scorching summer heat. This year, I will move slowly, breaking the cycles one season at a time.
