    My Son Remember This

Coloring when you’re younger is letting each shade have it’s alone time
    They say elders deserve it
But I never had the opportunity to see your hair age to grey
    You were a silver fox
Illusive with your presence, no matter how much of a present it would be for me
Doesn’t anyone care about how I feel
I didn’t ask to be here, yet I am, and everything is falling apart… And I have to pick up the pieces and make something beautiful
Whoever said horror was beautiful never had a cut deeper than the surface
I can’t escape this horror story, and adults keep preaching about the honor they don’t even hold on to
Your moral compass clearly was never fixed so stop trying to fix me
I’ll do it myself just like everything else
I don’t care if I take the long way
What’s a little more pain with this depression
This is what I imagined your thoughts said after you heard me communicate: mom and dad are getting a divorce
I’m sorry to have multiplied the trend of men walking out of your life
Son, I’m sorry and I hope you don’t keep your hands around the neck of a grudge
My son I love you, I’m sorry your picture of love now has a crack in it,
My everything, if you hate me and ignore everything else, please remember this: respect is earned not given
So, learn to give it even when it’s not deserved
Because pain can learn to heal when patience reflects
Respect can’t be bought so don’t spend your money on brands expecting it to elevate your title
Your name holds a weight more valuable than gold, not even the world can hold
You, let nothing hold you back
Dad will always have your back
Respect those that hurt you, more than the love they didn’t give
When you treat respect like the kindness everyone should receive you won’t have to ask for it
Then you can paint your own future
Coloring when you’re older is letting the paint sit at the grown folks table and mix conversation
p.s. no matter what our colors will always match…

    • This is so beautiful. I love loving people and I think it’s so beautiful that humans get to love each other so deeply. This type of love is special; to love someone so deeply that you need to create new ways to express it. This is such a warm story.

  • New Year Resolutions Everyone Should Share

Have you ever read the same book but a different story, there’s a saying for that phenomenon
I just finished my Saturday morning coffee and chocolate chip muffin complimented by my current read
It’s that time of the year again Deja Vu
So, I pull out my pen and begin to write about how to become a better version of you
I didn’t fully comprehend what I thought knew
This year I’m going to do something new
Looking in the mirror but only seeing half of me
I lost myself living as person three, instead of the main character
It’s time to take back all of my identity
Completing every goal this year but first let’s focus on the top three

Number 1. I’ll start by losing weight
Burning the off calories procrastination added
It’s easier to run to your goals when you sculpt the weight around your waist
The time is now, why wait
You don’t want to be late to your dreams
So, go ahead and book that first trip you’ve been planning for the last 2 years

Number 2. I want to travel more
Travel to the past so I can better see my future
A frequent flyer because I was too focused on yesterday
Now these miles are just lessons learned
A frequent flyer because growth is my meditation
If you ever want to get somewhere fast it’s better to slow down
Speeding will only get you a $300 ticket you don’t have the money for

Number 3. I want to be better financially
Health is wealth or so they say and last year I was broke
Broken heart, shattered mind, but you can still see yourself in a cracked mirror if you choose to
Today I choose you, reciting my daily affirmations
Self-care is one of the best ways to say I love you
Learn to say I do to the future you
Investing in yourself pays more than your 9-5
    You will be tired
But that just makes it easier to sleep with your day dreams

Ignore the world the same way they hit snooze
Wake up early, aim high, then reach higher
My goals are only one page turn away
So, stop judging my cover before you read my book
If you simply read the preface, you might begin to understand the trails I’ve faced
This book is about the evolution of me
You don’t have to read it, but you will respect my art the same way I cover myself with peace
p.s. these are my goals for leaving 2023…

This is so true. I also loved this line:

“Self-care is one of the best ways to say I love you”

This whole poem is really powerful and sounds like it’s written by a man ready to take control of his peace and find his happiness. I am excited to see what the year brings for you. T…read more

    Harmony

    Will you dance with me?
Creating joy through our new harmonies
    Infinite branches of possibility
    Stretching out …
    Higher towards the Light
The way a tree grows towards its source as if to say
“thank you Divine Creator for the Life you bless me with this new day”
    How beautiful it is
To live in prayer and gratitude
    In the heart
    Of the Most High,
    Always lifted up and up,
    Each day, my prayer asks
    “Lord, please lead me,”
    And His love leads.

So tell me, beloved, what song lives in your heart?
    More importantly,
    Why is it locked up
    Like the caged bird?
    The time is now
    You will be free
    You will have clarity

Once again your soul will sing
    The joy will flow
    The peace will ring
As you remember these forgotten things
    Remembering…
    Never are you alone
    But always in harmony
    In all ways
    Mind
    Body
    Spirit

    Harmony within…
    Inhale
    Harmony without
    Exhale

    Attuning to the highest frequency
    We make a perfect harmony
    Flowing freely
    Not always neatly
But divine and in perfect time
    We are aligned

    Release

    Releasing control now
    Giving into the flow now
    We’re ready to go now. . .

    Release. . .
    Control . . .

I put my faith all in
    All praise goes to above
    Give thanks to Most High
    Frequencies carry us up

He leads with love, this I can feel for certain
    Understanding, forgiving
The love You give is a sure thing

    Father, protect me,
    I’ve wandered so long
    Lost and blind
    Not even one song

    You found me
    And showed me
    And forgave me my wrongs
Your mercy, and kindness and love is so strong
    Thank You Creator
    With You I breathe easy
    So soft and so long

    So lord
    Please
    Forgive me my sins
    And when
    You see fit
    I am
    Ready to win

Thank you 2023, for guiding me

    Thank you,
    Sweet 2023
    For holding me tenderly
While the most vulnerable parts of my
    Soul returned from hiding
    In order to
    Be felt
    And seen
    Then released

    Thank you, 2024
    In advance
    For all the blessings
    From the lessons
    That you so graciously give
    Gratitude proceeds you
    You’re just that great
My heart flutters at the thought
    Of the sheer
    Magnificence
    You hold within your
    Beautiful higher
    Elevations
    Heaven on earth
    In the mind
    And
    Matter

  • Anyways, Life is Good....Gooder than Good

    To my Unsealed Tribe,

Everyday is a favorite day for me
I opened my eyes this morning and I could see
I could move my legs and stand on my feet
    Wiggle my toes
    And touch my nose
Use my mind to write this prose

    Running water, working lights
    Food in my fridge
    Roof over my head
    Despite my many obstacles
    I am not dead.

I can put a smile on my face
    Even in the darkest place
    Because every day I breathe
    is my favorite day

    I remember the days
when I didn’t think this way
    I remember wanting to hide
    And wish the world away

    I thought the only way
    I could find peace
Is if I was laid in a linen lined box
    And placed in a plot
    While the words
    “With deepest sympathy”
Are recited to my kids and family
And I be laid to rest
    “In loving memory”
Yes , everyday is my favorite day

Even when it didn’t go as planned
And even the days I was
    Surrounded by my enemies
    And out manned

    Through every experience this year
I have learned life is grand
And to push away all fear
    And run full speed ahead
I dare myself to stay the course
And in every moment, minute , hour
    Day and season
That my breathe is more than
    Enough reason
To let everyday be my favorite
Even on the bad days I will claim it
    You will never grow
If the sun is always shining
And the sky is never raining
This year I learned how to
    Not only love the rain
    But dance in it
    Everyday is my favorite day
Because the breath in my body means I am winning.

    Peace and Love

  • Testing . . .

Please bear with me as this is something that I’ve been wanting to do & finally got the courage to do so a freestyle fiction story that has been on my mind.

A child’s core memories develop at 5. Her core memories were not like others. Her core memory was waking up from her sleep as she was in the backseat of a car covered with her dad’s jacket while he was speeding on the freeway. She felt safe seeing her dad and went back to sleep as he told her to do.

She wasn’t going to school, but she went from home to home thinking about what a great time she was having with her dad. She went with the stepmom to be with her siblings. She doesn’t recall how she spent her time there but just the vhs movie that the stepmom threw away. Once dad picked her up, he noticed she was sad. Since her dad asked her what happened, she did just that. Dad said, “Wait in the car. I’ll be right back.” She just knew that her dad was going to take care of it. In her world full of chaos, all she can do was observe. When it felt like she was all, alone she realized that she was always guided and protected.

She went with another stepmom who was just a sweet and caring soul. She treated her right, and she knew, being in her presence, that everything would be just fine.

  • CONTEST SUBMISSION: FAVORITE DAYS 2023: POEM: BLACK MOOSE

The following poem is my entry to the contest… as well as being a poem about an experience with a moos in the wilds of Colorado. Being camped near Monarch Pass [elevation 11.350 ft), maybe a couple thousand feet lower on the banks of the North fork of the Arkansas River in June of 2023. I trust that you’ll enjoy the piece, and leave me a comment or two! Respectfully submitted, Ray Whitaker

    BLACK MOOSE

    It resonates with me
my encounter with another mysticism of nature
at the edge of the mountain glen.
While chancing to be near it
the large, black mass standing stationary in the aspens
as if to be unnoticed by being still

a bull moose eating leaves from above it’s head
a thin line of silver fur
going from mighty shoulder to mid back
young antlers soon to be a fierce armament
    now in velvet, growing
as if to scoop up the world.

    Moving closer
    keeping a mature pine betwixt
the likely over a thousand pounds of magnificence
    and my wonder

thus occupied I did not worry
    when he stopped eating
    looking in my direction
standing there wondering about me perhaps
as he stood in the dappled sunlight.
    Astonished at the proximity
noticing the depth of these brown eyes
pushing souls together, mine to his
    brown, mine, to brown, his
iris’ different, mine round, his oval

being in the moment of no thought
now wondering if he had a name
no feeling of fear in that closeness
only around twenty paces separating us
the sun shone on me as I looked
and as if I felt that regal power-black fur
a strength, assurance, commanding the ground
he stood on, like owning the very earth.

He is next to my tree now
    having moved so silently
and keeping the thick pine between us,
    our eyes locked still
getting what each other had to give
    my consciousness mingling
with the being of this immense creature
his long neck craning around, reaching nearly in my space.

I moved away, breaking the mesh
keeping the pine tree between we two
    having realized this tree
    was woefully small
having become a wood beetle now uncovered under the bark
I retreated to the next few tall pines nearby.

I am the Rhinoceros Beetle now.

    Our conversation had not ended
tho no words had been spoken out loud
no malice felt, only a near wistfulness
    from the moose and I.

Like a translator would be appreciated
to move the instances together somehow

    staring into each other’s eyes
    for longer still
    feeling the thoughts
    each having our own insights
    of consciousness
    and intuitiveness

that powerful rippling muscled black now moving away
my humanness moved in this moment.

Even wanting to know where all this would go
I did not follow deeper into this thicket, his woods.

    Thank you Lauren

My description of a delightful conversation that is open-minded and nonjudgmental. You can see each other’s point of view because you listen intending to listen. When starting off the dialogue, others refrain from interrupting you, allowing you to get to the point. I understand why it’s so difficult to have it with most people. The reason for that is simple: you appreciate it more when you have that delightful conversation.

I used to love reading and writing, how much emotion they expressed with the power of the written word. What’s more powerful than the written word? That would be the words that we speak; the spoken word. Words have the power to build or destroy you. When you have ill intention, then the words hurt and create chaos for the person receiving it. A delightful conversation has the power to bring in positivity and possibly people together. Some people can agree to disagree and continue on with the conversation. While others stand firm that there is only one way. There is nothing magical about having a conversation that is only one-sided.

My magical moment was joining The Unsealed, knowing that I can also transform my pain into a superpower. It inspired me to express my thoughts the only way that I knew it would be best. I had a zoom meeting with Lauren, which went amazing. She is so kindhearted, empathetic, and compassionate. I believe I cried during that zoom call. A pile of emotion from my story & to how she just listened, intending to listen, providing me with that safe space. I wanted to just pull her from the screen and give her the biggest hug.

I know everything happens for a reason and sometimes we don’t always understand why it happens. I know the reason I am writing this today and that is because it is a very special someone’s birthday 12/11. The founder of The Unsealed, who has given people a voice to be heard and listened to. To have the weekly zoom meeting and writing contest. The way you genuinely reach out to every single member. It really is a community so much so that you published books with our pieces in it! You provided a safe space for us to express ourselves and we are so grateful for that. I wish you nothing but the best for you on your special day because you deserve that and so much more. Thank you for everything you do and for allowing us to be a part of your journey. You have gathered like-minded people together and allowed us to express ourselves with the written word. You truly are one of a kind Lauren, happy solar return!

  • An Ode to You, My Love

    To say the gratitude
    I have for you
    Is infinite…
    Would still be an understatement

So let me attempt to paint you a better picture with the colors of my words
The bright yellow I feel for you brings such joy and ease…
The feeling of sunshine and smiles and birds in the trees
    And all good things
That warm the heart in the Light

    The soft pink envelopes me
Like a sweet hug and soft kiss
    You comfort and hold me
    I’ll forever cherish this

    The blue I have felt
    Runs deep, as the ocean
    And though I feel sad
    You still come through
    You lead with compassion
    Through waters unknown
    Bringing peace to my heart
    Cool and blue

The green that’s inspired in me by your vibrant ways
Feels fresh and expansive abundant and true
    “Grow” you tell me
    Down my roots go
    Reaching
    Connecting
    Making things grow

The crimson I feel for you lies deep in my heart
    A longing, or yearning
    Felt straight from the start
    Hot, excited but slightly unsure
How could this beautiful rosy dream be mine?
The feeling inside feels ancient yet known
My soul calling yours, longing to return home
    Safely nested close to yours

    All of these colors…
    Beautiful confusion
You help me sort through them with no expectation
    Of a favor returned

So yes “grateful” might be an understatement
For the one who came into my life to help change it into something of beauty, expansion and service
Grace is your way and everyone sees it
An exemplary example of a Man Divine

A life of devotion you model so well
I long to one day be able to say I made you proud
Forever in gratitude to You, My Love.

    poem: NO LIGHT

    Oh-three-thirty
    the “am” is implied
it can be considered (in military speak)
    as zero-dark-thirty
    either way, wakefulness is present
outside the sleeping bag cover in camp.

    Yeah, still dark outside
my hound and I go out
    and the in the darkness
all one has to do is look
    up. There is the splendor
of the night sky, clear, starry, unobscured.

Funny how neither of us even thought
about the night critters that may be about
he relying on my presence for safety
my reliance on him for his superior night vision
and sense of smell to warn.

What pictures are there painted in the dark
with steadying brush in hand, trying not to drip
    dusky colors off the palette?

Looking up, at the show of night sky
there is no admission, save wakefulness
the theater is quiet, as if in anticipation
of the drawing back that thick purple curtain
still no noises, the dark is silent.

My eyes only see the the vision of the stars
that I am native to see
over the treetops to the left
    are such bright pinpoints
close together enough to be a cluster, perhaps
one must be a planet, intense light from there
I shall have to find out which
still I realize that the visions
    from the Webb space telescope
    are far more lustrous, clearer.

    Returning to the tent
    the hot coffee is waiting
mist curling up off the coffeepot spout
like some close up nebulae in the cool morn.

    I am full of wonder
not sleep, that was a thing of an hour ago

    awaiting the sunrise,
and its chase of the darkness into the distant west.

    MORNING EXERCISES

    I

I write to the world this day
    to sense the wonder
asking it to remember the chances
    of it’s beauty.

In writing to the world this day
it is the joy of simply Being
    of participating with your God
in bringing the depth of a springtime thaw.

    The snowmelt engorges the stream
a long male member pushing down

the meadow below awakens with it
there is a newness to the banks
    with the stimulated green
coming from deposits of a fertile brown, fine alluvium

    beavers repair their woven dams
    spreading water over stream banks
the long winter’s nights have given work to them
see them smile as they cut new limbs to weave

the farmer looks back on the newly plowed field
    satisfied that the new shoots
    will raise their green heads
    towards the sun.

    The poets write to give
    a sense of the wonders
    the beauty of broken winter
the people rely on us to do so
to remind them that their paths
    aren’t necessarily muddy.

If even for only a few moments
the readers and listeners to the words
    that even the mighty oaks
grow new leaves to shade us.

    II

Forget what justifications as there may be
    giving a elusive credence
    to the crimes against humanity
    the narcissistic despots propagate

    the killing
    the dying
an un-natural cycle created by constructs
of pursuing wealth above the spirit.

    Stepping over the pollution
of plastic washed up on our ocean shores
ignoring the warning barks of our dog brothers
    telling us to beware

we are all animals, children on our solid continents
    unheard are the cries
    from a wounded Mother Earth
that is rebelling against the wounding.

It is the lance from the picadors
bleeding red drops to the arena ground.

    III

I write to the world this day
    to again feel warm wonder
asking it to bring forth the new growth
    of it’s beauty.

In writing to the world this day
to the joy of simply Being in tune
    with your God’s sent purpose
in bringing growth to this spring’s thaw

    touch the sprouts emerging
    see the little yellow birds
on the tree limbs happily in the white flowers there
feel the smiling warmth of your dog brother

    have seeds of wonder grow
in your place, from the ground of what is possible.

We poets write to give away strength
sourcing the pictures of their universal wonders
the people rely on us to do so
showing the beauty in the winter breaking
to remind them that their paths
    aren’t necessarily rocky

focus on what color your beauty is
and that warmth from a bright and gentle sun.
