Tree By Many Waters pt. 1&2

    Tree By Many Waters pt.1

There was a tree planted by many waters and it did grow, oh how it did flourish
There was much of creation which this tree was able nourish
Birds from afar would come make their nest
And many creatures would lay under the tree to find rest
Then one day a serpent slithered under its shade
And while it was there, the tree it did persuade
To drink from a pond that was stagnant and full of pollution
Promising that the solution was sweet to drink, and good to the taste
So the tree took a drink and saw what the serpent said was true and let none go to waste
Day after day it continued to drink the poisonous waters by its root
Until it’s limbs began to wither, and it’s trunk started to rot
Then came the day which the tree longed to bear fruit
    But alas, it could not

    Tree By Many Waters pt.2
    (Seed of Hope)

There was a tree that once was, but alas is no more
For the tree was deceived, and believed the words of a serpent
And drank from poisonous waters until the rot ate through to its core
Once the pride of the forest, standing so valiant and tall
Able to give rest and nourishment to all
Reduced to nothing but a hollowed out shell
Until a mighty wind came, and what remained finally fell
But as it fell, one little seed crashed to the ground with a “thunk”
And deep into the ground that little seed sunk
Its roots began to web through the earth
And from this little seed, came forth a new birth
A tiny little sprout, with a hope of reaching the heavens beyond the sky
A dream in which it would let no one deny
It began to fight its way through the old trunk
Chipping away through the rot, chunk after chunk
The rains beat it down, and the winds meant no good
But yet unmoved, the young tree stood
Before long the tree began to gain nature’s attention
There was not one creature who could not make mention
For the trees trunk had grown very large, and it branches began to cover the forest
And much of creation would flock to it to find nourishment and rest

    A True Friend

Many will say they are your friend,
But will they be there until the end?
Will they bestow a helping hand?
Lifting you up, so you can once again stand?
    Even when you’ve butted heads
And can’t take back words you’ve said,
Will they venture across the divide,
Just to stand there by your side?
Will they tell you what you need to hear?
Or do they sugarcoat you out of fear?
Do they have an honest heart?
Or do they speak ill of you when you’re apart?
Are they the type to help you grow?
Or do they drag you to the depths below?
Are they there in your times of need?
Or will they take advantage of you for their own greed?
Will they carry you through your pain?
Or forsake you for their own gain?
Many will say they are your friend,
But when push comes to shove, you will find their love is just pretend
With that said, a true friend you must also be
So be not the one who’s absentee

    • Be gentle with true friends. We aren’t always on parallel paths. We intersect and diverge, not always of our own doing. Use honest discernment, as you should disregard those who treat you poorly and give grace to those who walk along side you in peace. Even if for a moment. Live in peace, love yourself

we’re not meant to fight this battle alone
    By: Jim Kellogg
    (The Queer Poet)
    8-16-34
for my niece, Malorie, and her legacy, “Malorie’s Place”

we’re not meant to fight this battle alone
    a tired warrior’s cry
    screaming in silence
crashing her soul into the world
    battles fought valiantly

we’re not meant to fight this battle alone
    scared
    confused
    wanting just one more hit
    wanting just one more high

we’re not meant to fight this battle alone
    the world crashing in
like the tide against the shore
    eroding the vulnerable sand –
    her escape, her sanctuary

we’re not meant to fight this battle alone
    she wanted to be saved
by a regiment of purple winged angels
    in the end
    the battle was fought alone

  • Pitch Black

You ever try to envision your future — and it looks pitch black ?
Ppl ask you who you wanna be or what you wanna do — when you grow up
Your single mother was livin in survival mode just like you — doing the best she can
Too busy to sit you down and ask —
“Baby, what you wanna do when you get older? — We gotta start to plan”

Before she knew it — your life began
You’re 17 and graduating and the years flashed right before — her eyes

Now her little girl is pregnant & must grow up and time just passed her by

But don’t get sad on me now — momma — just hold on — hang tight

This is just the beginning — This is not the end

Lucky for her — she was never alone, God had her back… & he became my best friend

You see — For many of you in my same situation
I too grew up w/out an earthly father — to help raise me
but as it turns out — I never really needed him — anyway

My heavenly father picked up his slack . . . Im just another witness & reminder of that —

He placed the right ppl in my life
to help guide me down a — virtuous path

I just had to shift my perspective & be open — to accepting his plan

Gods timing is perfect, he’s never late —
he was just waiting for me to take hold of his hand — on the other end

I had to keep my focus on someone that was beyond me & my current situation
Had to let go of any self pity and all excuses I had created
I could say lucky for me — but most my life — it felt far from it

Regardless — It was never luck or chance
Just a shift in perspective & a blessing in disguise
We all have those — everyday — we just gotta be willing — to open up our eyes
So pls — don’t let yourself be minimized

By yourself — or your surroundings
or anything else — you may be lacking
He makes something out of nothing —
    time and time — again
Live life — like it’s already yours — and in due time — it will come — you will win

My first step in achieving my goals came from finding my greatest weaknesses —
Had to figure out how to turn my weakness into power — so I laid them — right beneath him

But first — let’s take it back to beginning— before I started winning

It was my big bro & my middle school sweetheart
    That’s who did it —

My big bro held a lot of anger inside — while tryna figure out who he was — and what he believed in

As for my baby — He was born into a different lifestyle than mine — and I wanted nothing more than to — save him
I didn’t want to lose him — in more ways than simply just — our relationship

I had To try to prove to myself and to them
    why the man up above
was the one to believe in

I’d not been able to overcome and succeed in all that I have — if it wasn’t for God — & his strength in our weakness

I wanted to show them a love — so pure
but first — I had to start — by believing

I wanted to show them his love but I knew — it would take lots of time — and patience — for them to see it

I Had to do it in a positive way
not too pushy— or rushed — or forcefully done
Cus the God I knew, taught me — early on — that’s not what real love was

Unfortunately — my current circumstance didn’t yet reflect the God — that I knew & loved
I was only 15 yrs old & hadn’t lived long enough
I didn’t have anything to prove or show for it — just yet
So I had to put my words into action even tho it was hard
I always suffered from anxiety and lacked concentration and because of it — I struggled bad
I was made out — to always feel dumb
but — I was far from that
The worlds a cruel place to live in — and at times
    I believed what theyd sung
But Gods words over me and my life were different
and they’ll also speak life unto yours
So I had to live by the words that I preached
so I too could believe the words — that he spoke
it’s been almost 15 yrs since than and I’ve accomplished a lot in my life that I sought out to do
I’m still so far from done but I’m doing what I can —Lord — to make sure — it all points back to you
So here are some of my goals he helped me achieve — (he helped me come true)

I knew nothing about kids and babies
Not a clue how some day i would become a mommy
So I went to school for childcare
and became someone I’d never known
I became a infant toddler teacher and got to hold lots of babies and watch them grow
I was able to raise my baby boy — good
even tho a few yrs back I would have never thought or knew …
Remember when I sd i used to see pitch black
—Well things changed real fast when
God said to me — nahhh bby girl — wait —till you see —what I’ve got in store — for you

next up— I decided to get certified to become a foster parent
but that’s something I still have to do

I decided I wasn’t done just yet tho
so I went back to school to became a nail tech
    Too
    & still I thought that wasn’t enough so , I said,
    how bout a barber too

Life’s been a whole lotta up down rollercoaster wild ride adventures — this is true
But pls don’t get discouraged by my accolades thus far
cause they come and go the same way we do
They will all fade into dust someday but one thing will remain to be true
My biggest goal that i accomplished & the one that matters the most
is — that even — if no one else will believe—
I proved to myself — God is true

    Signs Of Growth

Signs that a man has truly grown
Is when he’s able to see life through eyes not his own
When he stops chasing after the foolish things he seeks
And knows when to bridle his tongue and when to speak
When he is able to quiet his soul
Walking in temperance and self control
When he’s willing to forsake his pride and make himself low
Making himself not a spectacle or show
When he sees others as greater value than he
When his hands are shackled, yet his heart remains free
When he’s able to overcome fear
And willing to let go of his own life and well being, which many hold dear
When the desire of his heart is to give
So that those around him may live
    When regardless of his position
He never forgets the art of submission
When in the face of adversity he stands
But to his enemies he’s still willing to bestow a caring hand
When nothing is able to quench his love
That he may mirror the God in heaven above
When he seeks after the truth of Christ divine
For the fruit of a man’s growth, these are the signs

  • Name in the Credits

    Learning fast
    Thought I would apply
    Not knowing what would happen
Or if I would get in
Or if the world would come crashing down
Thinking too good to be true
    Then got that email
That email that would change everything
The ability to do something bigger than yourself
    To the bigger name actors
    To the lights surrounding you
To the chance to build connections
    To the nicest people
    Not the never ending drama
To the people you’ve gotten to meet
    What you’ve gotten to create
Knowing you were apart of something
    Seeing your name rolling away
Knowing the people that made it possible
    To the great times
    To the hard times
To the things that make it worth it
    To see it on screen
    To the birthday boy celebrating
    To the cupcakes and singing
To the fun times and laughs
    To the premieres and dinners
Trying to enjoy it before its all done
    The excitement of finishing
    From start to finish
    Oh how proud you’ll be
    What you accomplished
    Can’t believe its over
    Till next time

  • What Is The Point

What is the point in hating one another?
For do we not all share the same mother?
Do we not all come from the same origin?
So why then do we divide ourselves by the color of our skin?
Why have we allowed ourselves to buy into this insanity,
Of thinking there are multiple races, instead of just humanity?
And then turn it around and use it as a means to cause calamity
For nothing more than to feed our own vanity…
Yet there’s thousands of sick and poor
Who are left picking scraps up off the floor
    Families who are torn asunder
Suffering the sound of gun shots as they echo like thunder
So many hearts that have been broken
Over hurtful words which have been spoken
Are we unable see that solving hatred with wrath only continues to feed the bloodbath?
Why is it so hard for us to love one another?
To look at our neighbor as tho he is our brother?
Why are we so concerned with who is better, and who is best?
Should our value not begin with the fact that there’s a heart beating within our chest?
Why do we cling to a dividing love that is traditional,
Instead of clinging to a holy love that is unconditional?
For is that not the meaning of agape?
Is that not the beauty of the Way?
In order to love someone, do we really need a reason?
And why should our love change as quickly as the seasons?
Is life itself not a precious gift?
Why then do we seek to further the rift?
Why then do we seek to further the divide?
For nothing more than our own foolish pride?

    Forgive, Find Peace

What is the point of holding a grudge?
To carry along a heart full of hate?
To stand firm in wrath, and not budge
For it is but a burdensome weight
    One must learn to forgive
To let streams of mercy flow
For their own spirit to live
One must learn to let go
Why must one torment their own soul?
Why must one harden their heart like slate?
For vengeance is but an empty hole
And it’s endless cycle shall be one’s fate
It has been said, an eye for an eye
    But I simply ask why?
Life is short, and one day we die
So why is mercy something that we deny?
    Harken unto this decree
    Forgive and be free
    Looking back you will see
Bitterness only holds you back from all you can be
    Like venom in your veins
    Circulating through your blood
    When hatred reigns
One may as well be laid to rest in the mud
    Living but not alive
    Overcome by offense
    Forward on they’ll strive
    Until they get recompense
    Consumed
    Hurt ever looming
    Never healing
    Internally reeling
    The torment won’t cease..
    Forgive…
    Release…
    Live…
    Find peace

  • The Prompt

I was browsing through “My Mother’s Story” for a prompt. Not for my mother, and not for the children I don’t plan on having, but for me. I am my own mother in many senses.

“What was the hardest period of your life and why?”

My instant thought was “in a sense I am still living it, yet it has passed many times”.
It’s recurring. I am plagued with anxiety and depression many times for many reasons.
It never completely leaves me; sometimes it’s just managed better. It’s like keeping it in a box in the attic.
Then a trigger or a stress, consciously or not, just opens the attic door. Scours through the piles of chaos. Finds the box. And of course, proceeds to dump all of its belongings in every bit of the house. Messy messy I feel.

Right now, I am exhausted. Drained. Sad. Far from content. Miles from happy.
I want rest – not from sleep, but from life’s stresses.
I need clarity; a sure direction on where I am going.
I desire joy – self acceptance, motivation, calmness.
I’m yearning for change – beach, sand, sun on end.

I am the type of tired a nap doesn’t shake.
I’m so uneasy that a hug doesn’t help relax me.

Is this what a quarter life crisis feels like?
And although 75% of people in my age bracket experience this, does that actually make it normal?
    Even more unsettling.

So I’ll take this day as both a win and a loss. Winning because I’m making it through with every bit of life inside of me. Losing because I know times have been and will be better.
The stable me will return. She will strike again with her optimism, free spirit, and bolts of energy.

Until then, a restless girl I will be.

  • "Made New" A Poem to teach society about the importance of hope

    “Born New”
A poem about the importance of hope

    By Ariana Cooper

    “A needle my dear…
    Why, doesn’t that scare you?’’
I said, “no sir, go right ahead.”

    For that painful poking feeling,
    that leaves others reeling,

I’ve come to accept and not dread.

    The strong scented soap,

    Trying to learn to cope,

    My life under a microscope,

    The coldness of the stethoscope,

    Tellings of my horoscope,

    Struggling to stay afloat,

    MRI lights, like kaleidoscopes,

Feeling i’m at the end of my rope,

    Opening mystery envelopes,

    Receiving prayers from the pope,

Feeling like I’m in a sinking boat,

    Searching for the antidote,

    Being treated like a dope,

    Bystanders that tease and provoke,

    Always being overshadowed,

    Clinging tightly onto hope.

    My most important lesson learned,
    is that hope NEVER stops,

A nagging earworm of a song, a catchy tune, a bop.

Hope is like a tiny voice that you must not ignore,

Through our struggles, through our pain, although our souls feel sore,

    They can’t hurt me anymore,

Though I feel rocked to my core.

Now that I am so much wiser,

    I’m not a quitter, I’m a riser!

I may still only be a teen, with wisdom beyond my years,

For from a young age, I have learned, we all eventually face our fears.

    Fear is a LIAR,

    But hope’s like a choir,

    That sings and inspires,

    Burns strong like a fire,

    Makes darkness lighter,

    Makes a walker a flier,

    ‘Cause hope takes you higher.

The problems you have do not define you,

Your courage, your strength, your truth, will shine through,

How do I know? Because I have been blue,

My soul has evolved, a completely new hue,

A rainbow of colors, for I am born new.

  • Liminal State to Temperance Fate

Blessings swirled and danced and wove themselves through the lives of my capable friends, but seemed so unattainable, amends unavailable, to me and my sick intents.
Most days were spent in a thick, foggy haze, plagued with the side effects from alcoholic ways.
    Ever drained from manufactured chaos.
    Long nights with short payoffs.
And I was cocooned, bound and corrupt, drowning in my poisoned cups.
    Doomed to combust.
Further fast-tracking my funeral once I discovered the stronger drugs.
But one day, BAM, a clarity!
    A lightening bolt of serenity.
It just hit me – this mystery – a jolt to rewrite my history.
A new journey to heal after a decade of trouble and tragedy.
    I could really feel.
This was a miracle I was too long scared to acquiesce; that is until I became more scared of impending, ultimate death.
I had found my hope and I wanted to really live, not just cope.
But I harbored so much jealousy and envy, it pooled and boiled within me, resentments lengthy. I was bitter at social media posts, vacations and dinner toasts, and those who were joyful and friendly I saw as an enemy – such a manic psyche in frenzy, anger too plenty.
So I took a personal inventory, being fearless and thorough as a moral explorer remembering to not rest on my laurels marching forward with decorum.
Apologies were spoken, forgiveness was given, and something that was broken within me now awoken, a new beginning.
I couldn’t believe all this emotion, the cosmos burst open for me to be free to see reality, breathing sober breaths.
Many people helped pull me up and out from Hell’s deep despair depths to where I could be content simply living in the present.
The cliche’s like, “poor me, poor me, pour me another,” I’d discover, were just one of the many clever motivators to help me recover.
In time I would find on this brighter side that if I did what was advised and followed my spirit guides and applied principles learned and tried to purge the pain, then blessings would emerge and inspiration would surge to unlearn a lifetime of my survival skills that no longer served.
What was once inconceivable, an existence so unbelievable, finally made achievable, and with a lot of effort and belief I processed my trauma and grief.
I entered into a new season of mind, something divine, one of intentional design after the old me died.
And happiness and sobriety were not just a naïve fantasy, but an actual goal I could and did achieve.
Today I can say I’m proud of who I became without shame or blame and reframe my past as a gift I purely needed to unpack.
I’m thankful for the positive impact that negative experiences can refract back.
I no longer lack or feel trapped or need to distract from life’s ebb and flow because I know no matter what I undergo, even a heavy blow that can knock me low, will only bestow lessons through which I get to grow.
This meaningful life, once a dream, is now a very real thing, and at the center of my world, with clenched fists unfurled, I embrace all the love that I’ve always deserved.

    • Alyssa, I love this. I am so happy that you got yourself out of that rut, and didn’t dwell on it. You realized what was wrong, and you made yourself better from it. You took the negative and turned it into a positive. I aspire to be more like you!! Keep up the great work!! ♥
