Hi there, Gerald. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing about your journey to self-respect. I came here to say that existing how you want to exist is hard! I commend you for your dedication to doing so and ultimately, your dedication to self.
“[…] respect for self is imperative […]” indeed. You certainly don’t need it, but you have my respect, Gerald. 🙂

Hi Aisa. My pleasure! I agree, existing how you want to exist is hard work. It helps to have those that encourage us to exist how we want to. I appreciate your respect, Aisa. Respect back to you. 🙂

Hi there, Melanie. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your poem with us all. Two of your rhymes in particular stood out to me.
The first,
“ Gaining arrow after arrow in my back. Never a helping hand do I lack.”And the second,
“ A human who should be so evil or unkind.
I wish nothing but the best for you and I.”Now, I haven’t decided on a favorite just yet. But I’ll be back to let you know once I do <3
Stay tuned 🙂

Hi there, Autumn. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Reading it was quite the experience. At times, I even recognized some of myself in your stream of consciousness.
Selling my self short? Check.
Letting to-do lists build? Check.Overwhelmed? All the time. Overstimulated? That too.
Do I fail a lot? For sure!
And I don’t let myself forget it
when I do.“But sometimes
I [too] finish a poem, and I believe it’s good enough to share.” 🙂Thank you for deciding that this was one such poem. <3

Hi there, MLK. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us—for refusing to let the “homemade shame” have its way! I’m glad that one day, you got curious. And unpacked the gifts you didn’t want or need. Instead, you saw them for the blessings they could be. Thank you for this <3

Hi there, Rebecca. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I’m so glad I took the time to read your letter in its entirety.
And if you ask me, you’ve certainly achieved your objective—to remind us “[…] that respect is often earned through the battles we face and the unwavering spirit with which we face them.”
Well said, Becca. Very well-said <3

Hi there, Olivia. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your story with us. And whatever you do…please, keep writing! Trust that I’m just one of many who’d love to hear more from you. Because this right here,
“But as I got older, I learned to cope with art.
A crayon in my little hand marked the very start.”this right here stole my heart!
Any chance you write songs? Because if you do, I’d totally listen 😉 Hope to hear one from you soon <3

Yes! Respect *is* human decency, isn’t it?
“A simple rule, taught in
kindergarten” indeed.Treat people the way you want to be treated.
Thank you for highlighting this—the ‘golden rule’ of every classroom. It’s a shame just how many have strayed so far from basic, human decency.
But “[…] good things do happen, [and] good people do exist […]”
What a great share!

Hi, MJ. Aiša here. Thanks for sharing your poem with us all. It only took the first three lines to draw me in. From there, I was hooked! Soon after, I came across the following:
“I do not seek to earn,
Nor put on a show.”Having echoed a similar sentiment in a submission of my own, I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts.
In any case, thanks again for sharing your work! I do hope you’ll consider giving mine a read 🙂

Hi, Cherie. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I love a good rhyme and this poem is full of plenty! And then there’s the title…it compliments your message perfectly! Of course, the same can be said about your choice of photograph. Title. Photo. Poem. I felt this sense of completeness, wholeness even, having admired them all. And now I’m eager to share how awfully similar I find our writing styles to be. It makes me wonder…if maybe that’s why I feel so grounded by it [your writing]. So present. So at home. So thank you for bringing your vision for this poem to life. 🙂 I can’t wait to read what you write next <3

Aiša here—what you have to say matters to me, Samm! Thank you for sharing your wonderful letter with us all. I’ve long aspired to be my own cheerleader and number one supporter. And you Samm seem to have mastered both. Here’s to hoping I learn how to do the same one day. And that one day is someday soon. 🙂 Thank you for showing me how the self-assured carry themselves <3

Hi there, Sarah. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing the story of your journey to self-respect. Oh, to finally feel settled into one’s self. I can’t imagine the relief you must’ve felt in that moment of realization. You knew what you had to do and it scared you, but you did it anyway! That’s courage! What if I told you “she,” is who I wanna be? 🙂 Thank you for empowering me to have faith in my readiness and conquer excuses <3

Hi, Chanaly. Aiša here. Thank you so much for sharing about your name. I love how passionately you speak on the subject. What’s more to love is that when asked to think on why you deserve the utmost respect, you turned to your name! I see your poem as both an act of self-love and self-advocacy. I can certainly relate to all the unwanted attention—the feelings that come with baring a name that’s ‘too’ different. But at the end of the day, I wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂 Thank you for showing your name some love and inspiring me to do the same <3

Hi, Amber. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your light with all of us here and trust that we are all better for it. Not many people have the ability to heal others. Even less find a way to do so that’s sustainable. Yet you’ve answered the call. As an aside, Gie and I seem to agree on a lot on here. This is to say that no one’s healing should be placed above your needs. Treat yourself as though you’re someone who you feel called to heal. That is my wish for you. Thank you for all that you do. <3

Hi, Hannah. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your story and its playful undertone with all of us here. Quite the creative approach to a creative approach 😉 I found the subtly of it all to be particularly tasteful. From the moment I read the title, I was eager to find out what it [RESPECT] means to you.
And this right here:
“So mind what you say and do
Because you’ve never walked a mile in my shoes […]”demands respect.
Keep shingling for all to see, Hannah. 🙂 Thank you for paving the way for us all to shine with your message <3

Hi, Jamell. Aiša here. Thank you for sharing your story and all the encouragement that comes with it. I found your comparison of writing to a change of pace in life to be beautiful and I couldn’t agree more. It certainly deserves all the credit for having helped me. We’ve all heard the saying, ‘we can’t make time, but we can take time’. Yet, there’s so much more we can do with it…if we just…wrote. Stop time? Freeze time! Long enough to rewrite the past? Travel back in time, forward. Create the ‘where’ and ‘how’ our stories end. Truthfully, the present can be quite the scary place to be. But for those of us seeking refuge, it’s nice knowing that writing will always be there—insistently and indiscriminately. Thank you for your commitment to the work that you do. May it continue to aid in your healing and that of the world <3

Thanks for your great words, all of what you said is so true. Yes the present can be scary but only because we sometimes focus on rewriting the past or reliving moments over again to make tweaks and changes. For me, it’s about leaving a legacy when I’m done with my writing journey and that’s what matters the most on this journey of life.
