What wonderful work! Congratulations on achieving it. Let’s be friends! Our experiences differ but the feeling of being alone, of not connecting with others… it is the same. Isolation, the sense of being the only one experiencing it is so common to us and to others here. So rare to speak o it, to put it out in the open, o take the risk.

    Alchemy

what gives me strength? Incredible women and men who came before me and rescued the world.

    Alchemy

Women and men walk in time before me, shining in their aged raiment
as if the rain no longer falls, and the sun, newly emerged from clouds,
is piercing through the late afternoon air.
It gleams, reflected from their yellow slickers.

    Each one is…read more

Thank you! You inspire me with your dream of that golden future. I am glad we can hope and dream again. There has been so much that was dark and dreary … I dare not list them here as to do so would be to risk driving away from the sun’s light. The Professor

    The Professor

Come in, come in, don’t hesitate,
the professor said, his chair a-spin,
rising up to greet her with his grin askew,
we’ve work to do, things to teach,
    things to learn,

He thinks “while I burn in ardor
for your young and rosy cunt,
    to suck you dry,
    drain me deep.”

He takes the leap across the room,
    grabs her hard,…read more

Since I was a freshman at Michigan State University, we started the first women’s support groups. You would think by now things would be better. At grad school, Cornell was still not safe. A housemate was raped at home, a classmate was raped in the field. Women had to fight for equal opportunity. A professor on my committee tried to rape me. Then,…read more

    Chalice of Gold and Steel

Leaves losing their green youth turn red and burnt orange in the fall.
Winter slows the sap as Nature chooses life to husband.
Spring and summer become echoes, faint shadows put on hold.
Open fields welcome mammals grown plump with fat; birds take wing.
Crystal coats of ice in bright moonlight shine; branches break.
Oaks and maples bend only so…read more

    Imprisoned

I hope things are getting better, but for women of my generation, they were taught to see any problems in marriage or relationships as “my fault.” This is about someone I knew some time ago.

    Imprisoned

    Imprisoned behind four walls?
Her house has so many more divisions.
She has keys to them all.
What keeps her here behind these doors?

    Not her…read more

    • Hi,
thanks for your kind words again. I suppose my writing doesn’t go in much depth about the event, but that is irrelevant. The issue with the justice system isn’t the charges changed from criminal sexual assault to criminal sexual abuse/force because of a plea deal that he got to choose. Nor the fact that he was released early from a county…read more

Invoking the Muse of Woman’s Wisdom

Each day women arise to go about their tasks,
though choosing different paths, they start out much the same.
”Mind and body, fulfill my needs,” is all she asks,
”Let me create what is required,” is her aim.

For some it is to beard the lion in its den,

    Oh God, Please Carry Me

    Oh God, Please Carry Me!

Carry me; for I can no longer bear this weight alone,
it presses down upon my shoulders like a massive stone.
Carved from Carrara marble in bas relief; it has grown

into a Colossus that threatens my lungs to compress

    A Dream of Song

    A Dream of Song

For decades, I only wanted to sing, create art, and write. Singing was a constant in my life from at least the age of three. I woke up singing, and everything that happened every day reminded me of a song or inspired me to write one in my head. Mom encouraged me to write them down, but they were mostly in my head and sung quietly…read more

Letting go of anger and feeling “I am right” often takes a conscious decision. Sometimes, anger comes back after years of thinking it was conquered. Frustrating. Recognizing that it is the same old same old and will only do harm is the tough thing, I think. It can feel as if we need anger to armor ourselves against harm. sometimes I think we do…read more

So true. It was a big thing to Mr but back in the 60s, women and girls were responsible for men being unable to control themselves. By the time I got to my sophomore year in college, there were also bully women acting like men, threatening and assaulting women. wow, That is crazy to think about and how we are programmed to think how we are taught. We would like to believe that all women are for women because of what we have been through ,but that is not the case. Working together would really create a world where we can feel safe around other women. I have definitely noticed that before…read more

I greet your anger with peace.

    • This is a great poem you’ve posted, Kit. I love how you put healing words at the end of each line. Healing from the damage we’ve experienced in our lives is very important. Sometimes, healing can take a while because the pain we have inside of us is too deep. Your poem could heal people who read it and let the words sink in. Great poem!
