Summertime Rolls
Dear Unsealers,
It’s the 20th of June.
In the Northern Hemisphere, today is the longest day of the year. And in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the shortest day.
Though the exact moment where the earth’s rays are closest to the sun isn’t scheduled until 10:42PM tonight, it feels right to still welcome in the new season.
Ninety-four days are ahead under sunshine, blue skies and warm weather. Here’s to sea breezes, golden hour sunsets and moments spent in good company. The days will go by just as fast as they’ve arrived.
This is my welcome to the new season ahead…
When day turns to night
The sun’s rays are closest to earthA new season is upon us
The solstice, ushering in the summerThe longest day this year is here
First one, of ninety four to comeIt’s a blank slate so far
With space, wide open for infinite possibilityA time of year where the world slows down
After a hibernating winter and blossoming springSoaking up the warmth, the days will go by fast
Looking ahead to Iberia in the fallSubscribe  or  log in to reply

Love the way you love
Dearest love, I know your heart has ached and you’ve weathered storms alone. I see the way you shine your light, even when no one else would know. I love the way you stay so soft, and the way you bloom like a rose. Those stormy nights have only watered something deep that grows. No longer should you hide away, no longer letting worries stay. I see the parts that have lain dormant, a whisper of the soul. I know your strength and feel the power that courses through your bones. It’s time to claim and accept the parts that once felt unknown. So embrace the joy, the blessings, and life that are a gift to you each day. Sink sweetly into the pocket of peace that comes when you let yourself play. Each moment you have a choice to feed that which you wish to grow, so tell me love, will you choose less or something else unknown? Even when things seem unclear, the choice of faith is there. Trusting in a path unknown, a higher path is sown. Let your wings spread, feel the sunshine, celebrate the space! Even when the clouds arrive, keep that beautiful smile on your face. The depths you have travelled to, many would remain. But you have seen the dark space and turned it into light. Your devotion to being whole will always be what’s right.

Happy Father's Day!
Dear Unsealers,
It’s the third Sunday in June.
At the halfway point of the month, it’s Father’s Day.
I hope that all the fatherly figures from my dad on down the line have a wonderful day. And everyone has a wonderful Sunday.
I’ve added a photo of my family taken after my sister’s college graduation in 2007. From left to right: my dad, sister, mom and I.
After all that, this is my Father’s Day message:
On this, the third Sunday in June
It’s a day to celebrate fathersMy dad. My friend’s dads.
My friends who are dads themselves. Dad’s to be. New dads. All the fatherly figures
Grandfathers. Stepfathers. Uncles. With arms held aloft
For those who have difficulty celebrating this dayAnd a toast in memory
To the fatherly figures who are no longer with usI can’t thank my dad enough
For being a pillar of my life
Through so many challenging days
If not for him, I don’t rock n rollFrom me to you, the world over
A Happy Father’s Day to all!Subscribe  or  log in to reply

That’s a beautiful and heartfelt Father’s Day message! Your words perfectly capture the spirit of the day, celebrating not just fathers, but all the fatherly figures who shape our lives. The photo adds a lovely personal touch. It’s wonderful to see such appreciation and love. Wishing you and all the fathers in your life a joyous and memorable day!

Welcome, June!
Dear Unsealers,
It’s the first day of June.
Though, you wouldn’t know it by the way the wind is raging outside right now. It’s actually chilly. As if the season’s are signaling that a change is up ahead.
With the new month beginning, it’s only right to welcome it in. I’ll do so here…
Time is flying by
The month of June has arrivedThirty new days are here
Spring’s around, not much longer
There’s a hint of warmth ahead
Summer’s nearA month to honor our fathers
And be in awe of the Pride on displayOtherwise, it’s another blank slate
Of wondering how to fill timeTo keep the dancing days going
Or, take a beat to clear my headSix months into the year
With the halfway point of 2025 almost hereI wonder silently…
How did we get here?

Happy Mother's Day!
Dear Unsealers,
It’s the second Sunday in May.
For a good part of the world, it’s Mother’s Day.
This day can bring up all sorts of emotions. From joy, to sadness and longing. It’s okay to feel all the emotions.
I want to wish my mom, Lauren’s mom and all the mom’s in The Unsealed, a Happy Mother’s Day! I hope it’s a good day.
And now, for a poem marking the day:
On the second Sunday of May
We honor all of the mothersMothers-to-be, grandmothers. My friends who are moms.
Aunts, stepmothers, new moms, and pet moms
All motherly figures. Mi mamáWith all the love and grace
For those who have difficulty celebrating this day
And the mothers who are no longer with usAs mothers are the backbone
Of our lives and the world itselfI wouldn’t be who I am if not for my mom
Tenacious, spirited, and kind
I can’t be grateful enough for herMothers need to be honored.
On this day, and every dayFrom me to you, from NYC to the world…

Bienvenue à Paris!
Dear Unsealers,
Bienvenue à Paris!
October 8th, 2012
After a long night’s journey into daylight, we’ve arrived in Paris. It’s just my sister and I with no parents for the very first time.
It still feels surreal to climb the steps of the Blanche Metro station. Metropolitan above our heads in wrought iron, the Moulin Rouge on the other side of the street. We’ve made it to our home base in Montmartre.
The winding streets going uphill. Past the Cafe 2 du Moulins, and Amelie’s portrait inside. The pink exterior of the cabaret, Au Lapin Agile, and the bronze bust of the chanteuse, Dalida.
At the top of the hill, the sacred heart of Paris. Arriving at the front doors of the imposing Basillaca de Sacre Coeur.
Even on a gray evening, one could see Paris’s skyline as far as the eye could see.
It was not the fever dream that’s been the last few months we’re actually in the City of Lights.
This moment happened with a huge measure of serendipity. Back in May, I got a phone call from Time Out New York saying that I won a round trip flight for two to Paris on XL Airways France.
I couldn’t believe it. I enter their contests every week and don’t win them. Until now.
The reality of the situation only hit me days later, after receiving a congratulatory email from the airline. And even then, I didn’t want to believe it until my feet touched down at Aeroport Charles DeGaulle.
As the days went on, where didn’t we go?!
Versailles, climbing up the Arc de Triomphe the D’Orsay, the Louvre, La Tour Eiffel. Cruising along the River Seine.
There were not so great moments too.
An allergic reaction, excessive wine consumption, and a missed train to London caused problems.
But we made it through the situations to enjoy the trip.
Thirteen years, and one more trip to Paris later, I realize how much the city held my story.
By showing for better and worse, that I can be more than the cerebral palsy allows.
I will say it every time… J’adore Paris!

What would the old version of you say to the new version of you? 1 months, 2 weeks ago
Into His Embrace
If I was the five-year-old version of myself,
I would be ecstatic to have someone like you on my shelf.
I would gaze up at you and see a force,
And automatically know that your strength is my source.
If I was the ten-year-old version of myself,
I could have nothing and know that I have endless wealth.
I would look to you and say ‘I wish I could be just like you one day’.
If I was the fifteen-year-old version of myself,
I would boast about your progress and how far you have come with no help.
You navigate this world with a heavy weight on your shoulders,
But still remain strong as if your purse are boulders.
However, if the twenty-year-old version of myself could talk to me today,
Her words would remain in her throat because she knows there is no right thing to say.
She would hold out her arms and pull me into her embrace,
And she would rock me side to side as she strokes my face.
She knows words would not suffice because my spirit has been broken.
So, the vibrato from her hums soothe my soul as unnecessary words are left unspoken.
The twenty-five-year-old version of myself would have so much to say,
Because even though yesterday you couldn’t, today we have to pray.
No person should carry the weight of the world on their shoulders,
And no person should have to endure an endless fight like war soldiers.
Because that fight has already been won,
So, the only thing left to do is to give myself over to the Son.Style Score: 78%

Kevya, I fully agree that the only way we can find true happiness and peace is by giving ourselves to God and allowing Him to soothe our souls. You are right that no one should have to carry the weight of the world on his or her shoulders, and by giving it to God, He carries most of the burden. Thank you for sharing this piece!

Welcome To The Month of May
Dear Unsealers:
It’s the first day of May.
This feels surreal, given that January felt like it happened a century ago. But four months have now come and gone.
As I do, it’s time to welcome in the new month:
A welcome to May
The fifth month of the yearIt feels like a lifetime since January
When I wondered, “Why isn’t the year moving faster?!”Thirty-one new days are here.
With spring blooming, in full flightThe month to honor mothers
To remember those who gave the last full measure of devotion to the countryIt’s a blank slate ahead as another calendar page turns
After a busy April of writing poetry & dancingWith warmer days on the horizon
It’s time to emerge from hibernation.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

For those that celebrate the day, I hope that it’s an enjoyable day for you. I hope that everyone has a wonderful Sunday, no matter where in the world you are.

The rising of the son of GodWith euphoric joy in the holiest spirit

Poetic Words
Life can be a bitch
But the reality of the storm
Can lead to growth
I trust that I am still learning
As my life is becoming
A wonderful garden
Fine tuning myself
Every step of the way
I am blossoming
Into the person I ultimately knew I could be
Living in my purpose:
Writing
Making all my words count
Sharing stories about my life,
Who am I,
Who I used to be,
All that I’ve been through
Allowing people to see me for me
Being vulnerable
And transparent
Making connections with others
Sharing one common goal:
Expressing ourselves through Poetry
I just love that for me
For us
I’m so glad to be a part of a community
That allows me to speak
Hearing my cries,
Hearing my laughs,
Seeing my tears,
Embracing me with hugs
And giving me cheers
As my words are heard near and far
I wish that they continue to
Motivate and inspire
‘Cause I’m truly living my dreams out loud!Voting is open!

Tracy, this poem is so inspiring. I definitely agree that life can be a bitch, but that is what helps us blossom! Without dealing with the bad, we can never truly appreciate the good. It is so amazing that you are using your words to motivate and inspire others to find their way as well. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Slow Rose
Life has felt aggressively slow,
As if time has a personal vendetta on my goal.
I lay in bed as the sun glow,
These four walls are taking a physical toll.
My inner voice turns my bed into quick sand,
But I refuse to let my thoughts have the winning hand.
I step outside and I breathe in peace,
I step towards everything that I have planned.
Sweat beads down my face as I walk,
My breathe is strained and I can barely talk.
A bird just flew by and made a low coo,
The beauty in its feathers are bold and true.
I’m glad I decided to get out of the bed this morning,
It really takes one step at a time, I’m learning.
My thoughts of failure still reside,
But I am stronger now so I push them to the side.
I am not able to do much in this season,
For financial, credit and many other reasons.
But what I can do is take another step,
And do everything I can to prep;
For what is owed and was stolen from me,
Will be replenished in my pocket’s times three.
I step again as I struggle to breathe,
I step again away from everything I need to leave.
The passing cars, the beading sun, that gust of wind,
Reminders that a slow life is a luxury and a forever win.
I don’t want to live life focused on the next success,
I want to live life walking away from unnecessary stress.
Another step makes my lungs wheeze,
Another step makes my legs freeze.
I pause where I stand, and reach out my hand.
Towards a rose that blossomed from a bush.
I wrap my hands around the stem and give it a little push.
The thorns are sharp and my hands depart,
As the rose rest back in its place.
So, I leave it right there and continue on my pace,
Because peace and beauty needs its space.
Better understanding for what I need is blossoming this spring,
I tread on my walk and smile at everything life is about to bring.Style score: 70%

Kevya, I love how you compare the rose you try to pick to your own life. The rose is beautiful all on its own. It doesn’t need to change or move from its place to be beautiful. Though it may grow slowly, it is worth the wait. Thank you for sharing your experience!

A Welcome To Spring
Dear Unsealers:
At the time of writing, there’s less than ten minutes before the vernal equinox. Winter comes to a close.
The first grass grows, the days get longer.
It’s the time of year where come back inside from lunch will be difficult.
I feel a sense of possibility in the air.
With that, a welcome to the new season:
When the first grass grows
It’s the surest sign of time
Rising up from the groundThe seasons are changing
With winter’s icy grip retreating
Spring has finally arrivedA time where everything’s in bloom
Trees, grass and flowers tooUnder equal hours of day and night
The world comes alive againThe new season will unfold in ninety two days
Possibility is in the airAs the next part of the year begins

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
Dear Unsealers:
It’s the seventeenth day of March.
So the adage goes, we’re all a little bit Irish today. With that in mind, I hope that everyone has a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day with all the luck.
As I’ve done since 2021, I’ve written my own Irish blessing, and it goes like this…
On this, the 17th day of March
A blessing from me to youMay the sun shine upon you
Blue skies above, green grass belowRainbows to appear when you’re near
A life lived joyfully, without many tearsFor your troubles to be less
The craic always kept in good cheerAll the shamrocks bringing luck
With the warmth of Eire’s heart, soulThere’s one more thing to say
To everyone on the Emerald Isle…Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

International Women's Day 2025
Dear Unsealers,
It’s the eighth day of March.
A Happy International Women’s Day to all the women of the world. From my mom, my sister, all of my female friends and relatives. And to all the women in The Unsealed.
In honor of your strength, kindness and tenacity, comes this poem…
On International Women’s Day 2025
A salute to all the women
Family, relatives, friends and acquaintances
In every corner of the worldMay they keep making this world a better place
Bringing their light, tenacity and strength
Into these trying days and nightsMay we learn from their compassion
Their willingness to stick up for what’s rightI wouldn’t be the person I am
Kind, compassionate and fierce
If not for my mom and sister
The two most important women in my lifeHere’s to the women of the world
Celebrated on this 8th day of MarchAnd every single day of the year!

March On!
Dear Unsealers,
It’s the first day of March.January took a century to go by. February passed through quickly.
March is a month of transition. As the clocks will turn ahead an hour in a week. More daylight on the commute home from work.
The countdown to Easter begins. The Lenten season begins on Ash Wednesday.A month that honors women, and brings cerebral palsy to the forefront. And a moment marking five years since the world as we knew it was upended.
March is a month when the seasons begin to change. It begins in the last days of winter and comes to a close at the start of spring.
All in thirty-one days.
As with every month, a welcome in verse:
March
Month number three, in 2025The month comes in like a lion
As winter’s chill and hints of spring trade daysThirty-one days lie ahead.
A season of transitionFrom clocks moving ahead
Equal hours of night and dayA month of solemnity
The countdown to Easter begins. It’s also Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month.
And five years since the AwakeningThe month goes out like a lamb

Oswald, I love how you always usher in a new month with hopeful anticipation! March feels like a month of transition to me as well. As winter fades away and spring begins to show its colors, we feel a sense of possibility….unless we are talking about five years ago when March stood for something completely different. Poetry Saved My Life
Capturing the true essence of when
The love story began
I smile
Reminiscing on the rhymes
That made me laugh
Easy to create interesting patterns
Some so elementary
Yet so catchy
My words were my power
My emotions needed an outlet
My voice found a safe space
With each line
My love grew fonder
I felt more alive
Whenever I read my words
I was a bit surprised
A master in disguise
My pen was my secret weapon
The words I collectively gathered
Made me aware
That it wasn’t a mere coincidence
Once I started writing
I could never stop
Until I did for a brief period
When my mother passed away
I stumbled on a mental block
My passion had died
Until an angel came to rescue me
Reassuring me that I needed my own words
To revive me
My creativity had never left
I was lusting momentarily
But when my passion
Reminded me that the time was now
I knew that poetry was my true love
It definitely saved me!

More than a thing...
I love books but the Only One Thing
Is the Love story of God, that to me brings:
Peace and Joy, Contentment to the full-
Like carrying a baby on a baby stroll. That’s One Thing, that is more than a thing
Always blows my mind, with exciting dreams.
Though not regular dreams as when one sleeps,
Their the dreams of imagination-
That eternal relations keep. This library daily I seem to walk into
Holding life barely by the Word of Truth.
This thing is a box I’m locked inside,
Never can I get out, It is the place I hide. But there is always light on the inside,
That from the top it clearly shines.
When I look below I see nothing at all,
For the only place to go, is upward climbing the wall.Neither can you see in the dark
But the speed of light ran, and has me marked.
Inside this box that happens to be a Book;
Instruction number one is just to simply look. Then I learn, listen, and live-
No words of my own for you to give.
And no not at all am I ashamed of this,
Nothing belongs to me, I’m lucky to exist.Though may I hear no luck in vocabulary
I’ll only fear God, but not a fear that’s scary.
Rather a love-try of mutual respect,
One that walks with me and never neglects.A new life, a new mourn,
In a hidden concealed heart…
But always the same Christ,
Teaching my foolishness to be smart.I just cannot get out of the Bible,
Shoe-tying knots… For a long while.
Walking into this Cannon of Truth,
Is yes and amen to all good that’s due.Neer’ would I ever want to be released,
That for me is not a good thing.
I’ll stay chained, a slave of this Book,
Where I know Jesus saves every direction that I look 🙂2-23-25

Writing Love
Dear Writing,
When you came into my life in a new way seven years ago, I didn’t know then that it would be the love I wanted and needed. We became acquainted again thanks to a mother figure who showed me how glorious and attractive you are; inside and out.
My eyes became new when I saw you through her testimonies and words. Sadly, she would stop showing you around because her life became busy. Months passed by, and I kept hoping that she would show you around again, but there was something about you that kept calling me.
After wrestling with these new feelings, a lightbulb finally went off in my head to speak to you myself. When I started talking, you talked back with emphasis and enthusiasm. You allowed me to be a part of your home. You even introduced me to many people who would enrich my life in ways I couldn’t imagine.
Even though I would quickly become addicted to you, even over text you, it didn’t scare you off. If anything, you encouraged me to speak to you more, even at midnight. I’m terrible at saying the L word, but I hope I show my love for you and all you’ve done for me during our run together.
Your presence has given me the vitamins needed to thrive every day. Because of you, I have a much clearer vision of my creativity inside me. Without you, my life would be dramatically different in the last several years. I wish I had seen you in this light many years ago, but I guess I needed to do some discovering to find you.
I could thank you a billion times and it still wouldn’t be enough. When I read pieces from other writers who share their love for you, I truly get it. So, thank you, writing. I salute you, and I’ll keep honoring you for eternity.
Sincerely,
Gerald

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Dear Unsealers:
It’s the 14th of February.
A Happy Valentine’s Day to those who celebrate the day!
This is my message for this year. A time where love, kindness and compassion are needed more than ever before. Don’t give into the cynicism and darkness.
I hope that you feel love and loved today, no matter where in the world you are.
This is my message of love:
On the 14th day of February
We celebrate the spirit of loveFor friends, family, and loved ones
For anyone that you hold, near and dear to your heartThe feeling of love and kindness is needed
Now, more than ever beforeIt is easy to feel cynical amid all the advertising.
Candy hearts and greeting cards are everywhere.Cupid’s arrow shot across the bow
To everyone in this worldMay love spread to all corners
On this day and every single day of the yearFrom me to you, with all the love I can give
