  • what we don't know

an ant would crawl on my desk
tempted by fate to seek food
and with a few crumbs in view
    it scurries on with finesse

the ant would wonder and ponder
what to do and how to go about
    bringing home this tasty treat
    to share with those without

there are many ways to take
    and several paths to avoid
such as the old spider’s lair
    lurking around the corner

    despite the ant’s careful planning
it remained unaware of my presence
and with a swift pressure of my thumb
it was relieved of it’s existence

the ant was sad for it tried it’s best
yet no amount of planning would help
for there are always higher forces
who are on a much different quest

    • Andrew, we often have a one-track mind when it comes to our tasks and day-to-day lives, but there are always going to be others who will squish us to meet their own needs. Unfortunately, this is a part of life. No matter how well we plan, there are always going to be unforeseen circumstances. I love how honest you are! Thank you for sharing.

      • Thank you for reading! I’m glad you picked up on my intentions, I enjoy writing abstractly but sometimes think I become too abstract in the end.

  • within view

    i’d gaze upon the nightsky
    watching stars streak on by

    i’d toss a few coins
    into elegant fountains

    i was doing all that
    with one thing in mind

a wish that i would cherish
if it would ever come true

    but the stars would fade
    and day would come

    the coins would blend in
    along with the other ones

    i thought it wasn’t true
maybe it wasn’t meant to be

and now, i no longer wish
    i don’t need to wish
    not anymore

    for i have you
    and i’m thankful
    that my wish came true

  • when in tune

    a bird flutters into view
    resting upon my windowsill
    its colors so entrancing,
    shades of red and blue

    the radio starts playing
    an old familiar tune
    getting lost in the melody
    is something that i do

    i can be anywhere
    and everywhere that i go
    the beauty of this world
    has a marvelous glow

    • Aw, this poem is super cute! It’s short and sweet but left me feeling warm and your piece is a nice reminder that peace is everywhere. I love how your story starts immediately with the action of a bird flying because it’s easy to imagine and had me quickly curious as to where you’d go with it. Thank you for sharing!

      • Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the poem.

Peace can be so hard to find, we have to remind ourselves that we create peace within ourselves, we just have to relax and enjoy the moment.

  • a better tomorrow, yesterday

i wish i could tell you
the things you need to do
i wish i could show you
how to dance like we would

    but you already know that
so there’s not much to say
    just relax, be a diplomat
    and maybe you will someday

    • Life is so mysterious sometimes. I wonder what you meant when you said “be a diplomat.” There really is no rulebook, but we all seem to make it out okay in the end. Thank you for sharing.

      • I wanted to use “be diplomatic” but it didn’t fit the rhyming pattern, so I changed it to “be a diplomat”. To me it means being mindful of how you treat people and events going on around you.

Thank you for your comment! Life is mysterious and like you said, it somehow seems to workout in the end.

      • Thank you! I had fun writing this poem, it felt right to keep it short because the first thing that popped into mind after reading the prompt was “just be yourself” and there’s not much else I had to add to that. I tried my best to capture the thought into words.
