  • Fate, and the human condition

    Dear Reader,

What makes me strong? That’s a tough question, because I don’t feel strong. I feel very, very weak, and I feel very, very vulnerable. Yes, I’ve gone through a lot, not only in the past 6 years, but my entire life, and I’ve survived. But truthfully, it feels like I had no choice but to go through it. Whether I liked it or not, I was…read more

    • Amanda, I am so very sorry for the loss of your father and the cancer diagnosis. But, wow! You are so resilient. Your perspective, your grace, your perseverance – all of it makes you strong. Strength is who you are and who you have always been. Somewhere your dad is 100 percent smiling down on you saying, “See the tough one? The one who keeps…read more

    • Amanda, you’re so strong to have been diagnosed, with all these symptoms. Then your dads passing didn’t stop you from building your strength. It’s true that strength does come from going through losses that life throws at you. It takes a lot to stand back up after taking so many blows. Keep being strong!

  • Thank you so much Kayjah, you are extremely sweet, and I appreciate your kind words <3 Unfortunately, blood related family doesn't always have your best interest at heart, and those that do aren't going to be in your life forever. (I've learned that the hard way). I genuinely hope that I am there for them the way I want to be. My hope is for the…read more

    • I love how you said that family is only blood. That’s a great mindset for your future child to have. Especially when sometimes your own family may not be around at certain points of your life. I know you’re gonna be involved in your child’s life and make him realize his future goals and dreams on his own. A lot of families push their child…read more

  • Wow, you are truly a strong person and I’m so sorry you had to be. You should be very proud of yourself for being a representative for both you and your son, its by far no easy task. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story!

  • Thank you so much Denise, your comment made my day!! I agree completely; our generation spent most of our lives trying to live up to the expectations of not only the media, but the generations before us. We all need to take the time to heal, and connect with each other, and hopefully continue to have the courage to share our stories, however…read more

  • Dear Legacy,

Where to even begin; there is so much I want to tell you. The first thing I need to tell you is that I, despite what I’ve told you or made you believe, have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve been skirting by on a wing and a prayer pretty much my entire life….and luckily its gotten me here. In life everyone makes it seem like they know all the answers;…

  • Representation: From Generation to Generation

Representation; it’s a word I only truly learned about in the last 5 or so years…and I still have a lot to learn about. You see, growing up I loved movies, books, television shows; basically any escape from real life was my jam. Luckily, there were a lot of shows, celebrities and characters in stories that I, as a blue eyed white girl…read more

    • Oh man this was such a good read. Your first paragraph was so raw! & it was relatable. I wish our generation had an easier time healing but it’s wonderful that people have the courage to share their stories. Someone, somewhere will read that now & relate & not feel so alone anymore.

    • Your message is so true. There is it is much representation as there should be now these days. There might have been a development, but I feel like there should be more. It kind of sucks especially with the society that we live in that there are not as many people being represented on television as they should be, and even if they were represented…read more

    • @abeaton Amanda, I love this idea of trusting your own voice and carving your own path. I think helping people realize their dreams instead of telling them what to dream is what it’s all about. And while it seems like everyone else has life all figured out, you are right. No one does. So follow your heart, trust voice, and always stay true to who…read more
