To My Old Self It Will Be Alright in This I Promise

To my old self it will be alright in this I promise.
The old self will one day help you to accomplish.
Trust me, some things will leave you left astonished.
It is all in good time.
There will be dark cloudy days and there will also be sunshine.
There are going to be truths and more hateful lies.
It’s important to know the difference.
Remember to always use your gifts that God has gifted.
Life isn’t always what one envisioned.
Lines ger blurred and perceptions become twisted.
To my old self take care of your mental health.
Your feelings are important, each and every one that you felt.
You’re going to want to quit, but I encourage you to never stop it!
Your future self will leave you astonished.
To my old self it will be alright in this I promise.

  • My Love For Writing is My Zen

My Love for Writing is My Zen

    My paper, The pen.
My love for writing is my Zen.
    My pen, my paper.
    My pencil, my eraser.
    My keyboard, my keypad.
The things I do and don’t have.
    My thoughts are internal.
    My physical and digital journal.
My love for writing is cathartic.
It truly brings me through the hardship.
The blank paper, the pencils led.
My love for writing is my Zen.
    The single and double lines.
Writing brings peace in my mind.
Thank you to my loyal friend.
My love for writing is my Zen.

  • Dear Fear

    Dear Fear,
I’m writing to let you know that I’m doing good.
I’m doing all the things I didn’t think that I could.
Dear Fear, even your silence is still loudly heard.
Even when your vision is clear it is still often blurred.
I’m writing to let you know that I still sometimes hurt.
I’m here today to address my concerns.
Please listen up and listen up well.
I come through smooth even when I’m going through hell.
I’m showing you my hand, I’m telling you my tells.
Dear Fear, please do or don’t take this the wrong way.
I hope you take heed to the things that I have to say.
I’m going to do nothing but diminish you when I pray.
Dear Fear, please don’t have a good rest of your day.

    • Kelly, this poem is a beautiful representation of the self-love we should all shower ourselves with. Too often, we judge ourselves and criticize our flaws, when we should instead be celebrating our strengths. My favorite line is “Thank you for sometimes taking it easy” because that is something we all need to do a little more often. Thank you for…read more

  • Don’t Remain Suppressed

    To my younger self.
    Don’t remain suppressed.
    Perplexed.
    What’s next?
    Hard-pressed.
    Constantly stressed.
    Life’s a mess.
    Nevertheless.
    Let out my younger self.
    Emotionally flex.
    Don’t compete complement.
    Out loud in text.
    No’s and yes.
    Dirty and fresh.
    Poor and blessed.
    Let out my younger self
    Don’t remain suppressed.

    • Kelly, I love this!! Do not suppress your childhood self! She is the first chapter of your story and even though there may have been things you don’t want to remember or regrets that you may have from that time, you can’t ever forget about her. Don’t leave her in the past just because you have changed. Celebrate her! It may be difficult, but I…read more

  • To My Lost Loved Ones.

I lost so many; how do I choose to write about just one?
I often feel like I have no pulse, or I am numb.
I embrace the warmth of the bright sun.
This is to my lost loved ones.
I have been blessed to have a life of inspiration.
They taught me how to navigate through aggravation.
I can still feel their presence and see their faces.
How can I feel so sad and at the same time so amazing?
My angels, my lost loves, my broken pieces of my heart turned into a beautiful puzzle.
The puzzles of memories placed in a frame make it emotional and lovable.
If I could get back that one dance, that one kiss, that one hug, I would be more huggable.
If only I could go back in the past and get into that good trouble.
To my lost loved ones, please keep a place for me and make sure it’s fun.
I miss all of you, so many, too many to count, there is no way I could just pick one.
Remember to cherish the now as the past can never become undone.
A big thank you to my lost loved ones.

    • Kelly, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing several people close to you can be so difficult to cope with. The memories and lessons that you correlate to these people are what will be with you forever. I am so happy that you got to experience such joy with these people. You are strong and will get through this! ♥

  • The Places I Feel Most at Peace

The Places I Feel Most at Peace

The Branchport Avenue Bridge, the sounds, the smell of the geese poop and the feel of the breeze is where I feel most at peace.
At church, where I worship, where I pray, where I serve, where I believe. At church is where I feel most at peace.
On the train going over the water, sitting and waiting for the next train to approach. The vibration and sounds of its purpose bring me to a place of ease. On the train is where I feel most at peace.
Sitting at the beach watching the water flow, the sun hitting against my skin, the wind telling me that you are next to me. The beach is where I feel most at peace.
Sitting by a campfire listening to its crackling, the smell of the smoke, the laughter of our loved ones. The memories of the old and the making of the new. In that moment I wish to sit and freeze. Sitting by a campfire is where I feel most at peace.
Peace is within me so where I am I have the ability to feel at peace. Let stress release and embrace the moments and the places that you feel most at peace.

    • This is truly inspiring, Kelly! People may feel peace while they are in certain places, however, the only way that they can experience true peace is if they have peace on the inside. My absolute favorite line of yours would be when you said “Peace is within me so where I am I have the ability to feel at peace” because it is so accurate!! You…read more

  • To Whom it Concerns and Dear Self

To Whom it Concerns and Dear Self,

I am to whom it concerns.
I have so much that I still need to learn.
I’m living in the now, not before or the after.
This is what I love most about this chapter.
To whom it concerns and dear self,
    This chapter is titled health.
I am achieving my goals with stealth.
These feelings that I’m feeling were once felt.
This chapter that I love most is new to me.
I am myself and myself is who I choose to be.
Life is short so therefore I am living it fully.
I am constantly growing, and I am loving who I grew to be.
I mentioned before that this chapter is titled health.
Life is difficult and it can hurt like a snapped belt.
Life leaves visible bruises and unseen welts.
This is to whom it concerns and dear self.

  • That Time I Didn't Give Up

That Time I didn’t give up.
I was in crisis feeling lifeless, but that didn’t mean that I loved life less. I just know I had to pass life’s test.
I had more blessings to go in my cup.
    I had so much love.
Which is why I’m grateful for that time that I didn’t give up.
That time I didn’t give up.
    Let me count the ways.
    I gotta give God Praise.
I cherish my life that can’t be erased.
Remember you are strong and you are more than enough.
This life is so crazy rough.
Which is why I’m grateful for that time I didn’t give up.

    • This piece hits hard from the jump! “I was in crisis feeling lifeless, but that didn’t mean that I loved life less. I just know I had to pass life’s test.” hit so hard that I had go back and read it again. This is excellent! You have a very smooth flow and packed a lot into a very short poem 🙂 Good job!
