Hi Emmy – Yes, the 70s were the best era. I was just a young teenager during those times, however, I am thankful to experience what I did. I appreciate your input, and taking the time to study that time in history. Your words are inspiring.

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your words. It means a lot to know that the message resonated with you. My goal is always to spark deep thought and reflection, and if even one person connects with it on that level, then the purpose is fulfilled. I believe that when we challenge the way we see the world, we open doors to new levels of…read more

Quiet Storm
My perception of life allows insight into things that are often missed by others.
I choose to be silent, letting my written words say what takes my breath away.
I see the injustices, and relentless undertones. So many are inflicted by a hate that they have never had or known.
All for the sake of being different.
Looking away from a person who may have been born with deformities.
Blind, deaf or lame.
Even those who are impaired mentally. There are times I burst into tears, but it’s not for me as much as it is for others.
Some consider me to be fragile or too sensitive, not grasping the burden it carries to care.
I feel crushed in return… getting a clearer picture of Yashua, connected by DNA, his blood running through my veins.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
Yes, Yashua is my brother, and God’s first Son.
I suspect for such an uncommon belief not to be received.
Saddened by the amount of misunderstanding of me it brings.
Aware of the way others look at me. Not so much about beauty, but this certain je ne sais quoi encountered by my presence.
Some have lashed out at me in hopes of a reaction, because I remain composed and calm during times of chaos.
I have been called the “quiet storm”.

San D, this is a beautiful way of describing who you are and what matters to you. “Quiet storms” are often the mightiest, and I’m sure that the words you do say are powerful and intentional. Being calm throughout chaos shows your strength. Thank you for inspiring me and for sharing your experience!

Tracy – it’s interesting to me whenever I discover how someone I’ve never laid eyes on has the potential to connect by experience. I too had a writers block for five years after my mother passed in 1991. I am rejoicing with you that your passion brought you back. Awesome work 👏🏽 👌🏾

A Love Letter to the 70s
Dear 70s Era,
As I reflect on all the things you ushered in, I realize there will never be another era like you in any other lifetime.
I love you for the way you created a pathway for the African American community to thrive in.
You helped define our style and creativity. You allowed us to be our authentic selves.
Passionate, Loud, Black and Proud.
From our unique hand shakes to the textures of our hair that were worn in cornrows, afros, and dreads.I believe the 70s understood the assignment of equality. There was room for all ethnicities who had different cultural backgrounds.
The 70s brought us all together through Love (God is love).
Yes, hatred and division took jabs, but there were few.
You embraced us, where some who were “not like us” shunned away as if we didn’t belong.
I would be amiss if I didn’t say how much I miss you.
I will always be thankful for the memories.

San, though I was not alive in the 70s, I can see what you mean about the love and equality that was present during the time. Looking back on history, it is obvious that the 70s transformed this country and paved the way for a move inclusive future. I am jealous that you got to experience it! Thank you for sharing!

A Letter To My Fear
Dear Unknown,
I shiver when I hear your name. You are so cavalier towards my distress.
I distance myself from you to no avail; because you always seem to find me.
You are the culprit of my misery. Or you could be the reason for the joy that awaits me.
I lay awake all night, and I don’t want to face the day. You are there to greet me at sunrise.
I sit here stagnant, engulfed in fear.
I am reluctant to admit that you are my deepest fear, but I refuse to live my life imprisoned by you.
I vow from this day forward that I will face my fear of you, and live my life despite your unpredictable ways.
I realize who I am. I am kin to a royal family, and I hold special powers and authority.
Unknown, you must relinquish the grip you hold on me.
I will place demands on the Kingdom inside of me. To reveal my greatness, and see the world as an empty canvas, awaiting my commands.
Sincerely,

This is a very unique poem. The unknown is scary for me, too. There is so much out there waiting for us, maybe good, maybe bad. But the beauty in life is that there are so many surprises to come. Our lives could change at literally any moment; so it’s best to just live a happy and hopeful life, not to live a life in fear. Great work ♥
