  • A Comfortable Distance

    Our eyes meet.

    I smile at you.

    Sometimes you smile too.

    Sometimes you look away.

    We’re not friends,

    But we could be.

    There’s space between us.

    A comfortable distance.

Or does the comfort only belong to me?

I assume it’s there because you want it to be.

You like the space between us.

    But what if I’m wrong?

Maybe you wonder if I want the space between us.

    I do.

    It keeps me safe.

It keeps me from getting hurt.

It keeps me from finding out how you truly feel about me.

Because I fear being rejected by you,

    I will maintain my reserve.

    I will choose loneliness.

    • Cynthia, it feels safer and easier to protect your heart when you know what it feels like when it breaks. But what if there is a chance for something greater? While I understand your hesitation in putting yourself out there, I hope that one day you choose to forgo your space and take a risk. You never know where it might lead! Thank you for…read more

  • Work Smarter, Not Harder

If it’s taking too long, then just move along.
If it’s not flowing on its own, then just leave it alone.
If it doesn’t feel natural, then it’s time to be factual.
If it requires force, then ditch it, of course.
I’m not telling you that you should lose heart.
I’m simply suggesting you choose a fresh start.
Take a deep breath and start anew.
Life can be tough, but so are you.

    • Cynthia, WOW! I love this so much. Your words flow so well and your message is incredible. Moving on from challenges can be difficult but it is best that we don’t dwell too much on the past and move on to the present. Amazing work! ♥

  • Word to the Wise

    From me to you,
    which truth is true,
and how to choose between a few,
take this clue and read it through.

When taking pills of red or blue,
when you’re deciding what to do,
you know who will guide you through,
    and your perspective He’ll renew,
and give you a new point of view
so you can understand it too.

So, when it comes to what is true,
you should know a thing or two
about how what is new to you
and that you now believe is true,
compared to what you thought you knew,
wasn’t new, just new to you.

    • Cynthia, I totally agree with what you say in this poem. When we find truth, we consider it a “new” thing, but really it was there all along. Sometimes we are torn when it comes to making a decision, but if we trust in the process we will eventually understand what we are meant to do. Thank you for sharing your perspective!

  • Worth the Wait

A stranger is only that if you haven’t met them yet.
A kind smile and a friendly wave to someone new is very brave!
Tip your hat. Give a nod.
    Don’t be wearing a facade.
In the end, we’re all flawed.
Be proud of what makes you odd!
Let your truest self shine through.
    Connections deepen when you do.
If you want to rely on fate, chances are you’ll have to wait.
But that doesn’t mean you’re late.
It’s worth it to find something great.
Belief could be the spark you’re craving.
Your hope in true love is worth saving.

    • Cynthia, I absolutely loved your poem. “Be proud of what makes you odd” is my favorite line! As we get older, many of us try to hide our quirks when we should really let them shine. You are so right that it is worth it to wait for something great. Thank you for sharing!

  • You Were a Good One

The way you lit up whenever I was around.
The way I could trust you with my secrets and know that you would only share the things I wanted known to others.
The hours we spent together in good company playing games, streaming movies, and making plans for the future.
Sometimes I would shut you down when you were acting out of sorts, but I always knew that we could start fresh after taking some time apart, and we would both be better for it.
And while you naturally opened up to anyone who cared to get to know you,
You and I had a special bond and connection that was not easily hacked.
It’s a shame that your time has come to an end, but I will still hold on to you for the treasure that you are to me.
    You were a good computer.
    Rest in peace.

  • It's a Process

Please remember, through your frustration, and troubles of your own creation, it’s so important to give yourself grace instead of wallowing in your disgrace.
Whatever challenges that you are facing you’ll later realize are worth embracing.
Even though it won’t happen overnight, everything’s going to be alright.

    • Life challenges strengthen us and make us braver. I love how you included the rhyme as if it’s something you’d say to a child just before bed — especially in the line, “Whatever challenges that you are facing you’ll later realize are worth embracing.” Very lyrical and profound! Your writing asks us to take a more accepting approach. Thank you for sharing!

  • Summer Storm

A mellow breeze blows in through the window, and the candle flame sways and flickers.
The falling rain sounds like quiet applause, occasionally growing louder and then softer again.
Crickets and frogs sing together, celebrating the summer storm.
A flash of lightning lights up the dark sky and briefly illuminates the branches of trees that dance to the playful wind.
The low rumble of thunder sends gentle vibrations through the ground and a pleasant chill sends tingles through me from the top of my head to my toes.
A breath of petrichor is an invitation to have peace.
    Here, I could remain.
