Get Over It!
Get Over It
If I were a competent man walking through your door
you would see me clearly, not as some intimidating threat.
You’d get down on your weak pitiful scrawny knees
and kiss the hem of my blessed indigo blue jeans.
Instead, you watch me, like a house cat who
thinking itself bigger than its mountain peak roaming cousin,
imagines invasions at the borders of its territory,
slashing unsheathed claws at the intruding lynx.
Caught up in your altered universe of imaginary boundaries
you refuse to see my peaceful civility, my goodwill offering;
all by yourself misreading my words, creating my intentions,
making it clear, there is no need for me to exist at all.
All you need is an empty rubber woman.
Inflate it yourself with your dank rotted fish breath.
And while you’re at it take off your human mask
so we can see your fanged feline aspect in all its spiteful glory.

This is such an empowering message. You explained how women feel in today’s society. That cat reference is also powerful and so creative. Men are like indoor cats feeling the need to think they are bigger than women and have every say in our actions towards our bodies and how many of us should be and act. Keep motivating women your message is so powerful.
I had been voluntering at a local bookstore, running poetry workshops and open mike nights. During that time I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. The owner and other’s knew. Then, one of the men was diagnosed with Lyme. They bought a very expensive piece of medical equipment for me. Thy didn’t even offer to let me try it. I realized that day that I was the invisible woman who didn;t need to be there at all. So, I Left 🙂
