Blood on the Promise
Hush now child, we are going on a journey.
We will be free from turmoil on our home soil.
We will seek asylum in the land of the free,
No worries of war in our far away home. The waves may rise, the winds may howl,
But hold my hand, we’ll make it somehow.
Through deserts, through forests, we walk unseen,
Chasing the promise of a brighter dream.Hush now child, don’t cry from the cold,
The road is hard, but our hearts are bold.
The stars above guide our weary souls,
Through shadows and doubt, we chase our goals. They call it freedom, they call it hope,
A place where we’re given a chance to cope.
But oh, the cost, the burdens we bear,
Strangers in a land that may not care.Hush now child, keep your head held high,
Even if the questions start to pry.
“Why are you here? What do you seek?”
They don’t see the strength in the tired and meek.We carry the weight of our stories untold,
Of villages burned, of nights so cold.
Yet still, we rise, through fear and disdain,
Planting new roots in soil laced with pain.Hush now child, for someday they’ll see,
Our struggle, our fight, our legacy.
We build with hope, with tears, with love,
For a future we dream, as vast as the skies above.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

A Call to the Unseeing
The moment they thought DEI meant Black or queer,
was the moment they lost the war,
so far removed from the struggle,
like history ain’t at their door. They forget—
they were once as poor,
if not standing beside us, knee-deep in the same war.
Before race, there was class,
before color, there was caste,
yet the blame never lands
on the hands that built the past. The structure was forged with intent,
inequality chiseled in stone.
Yet the victims bear the weight—
never the architects on their thrones. We ain’t choose to be here,
displaced, discarded, denied.
And the land? It was never theirs to give,
yet they legislate stolen soil with pride. And now, the world shakes,
coups play out in real-time,
yet we watch—numb, scrolling,
like history don’t rhyme. There is no ethical billionaire,
only loopholes and ledgers,
only tax cuts dressed as charity,
only wealth hoarded in hidden treasures. To be ethical is to see,
to hold every class in your care.
But justice ain’t profitable,
so tell me—who’s really aware?Subscribe  or  log in to reply

You make some very valid points in this powerful poem! You are so right that there have always been societal norms in place that result in the marginalization of certain groups. In this day and age, it is ridiculous that we are still dealing with discrimination. My favorite line is “To be ethical is to see, to hold every class in your care.” The…read more

A Haunting of Me
Dear Fear,
You’ve been lurking in the shadows, creeping into my thoughts like a cold, unseen presence. I thought I could outsmart you distract myself with distractions, tell myself I’d get to it tomorrow. But tomorrow never comes, does it?
You show up like an uninvited guest at every moment I shine. You whisper that I don’t deserve to be here, that I’m not doing this, that it’s only a matter of time before I get exposed. You’ve made me question my worth more than once, turning my achievements into shadows of doubt. You convinced me my success is nothing but a fluke, and I am nothing but a fraud waiting to be unmasked.
You’re the one who stands in the doorway, tempting me to stay in my comfort zone. You distract me with “just one more scroll” or “ one more episode.” You are always patient, like a slow poison, convincing me that there’s no need to rush. But deep down I feel your grip tightening, the hours slipping away, leaving me with nothing but guilt and missed opportunities.
But today- today, I’m taking my power back, you may be a shadow, but I’ve learned that shadows only exist because of light. I’m the light. And I’m done hiding from you.
I’ve stared you both down long enough. I know you’re not as powerful as you seem. You can whisper all you want, but I won’t be silenced. I’ll push past you, step by step, and I’ll make my way to the future I’ve been too afraid to claim. You might still show up, but I’m no longer letting you dictate my story.
Watch me. I’m doing this.
Sincerely, a future that’s no longer waiting.

When the World Burns
Fire rages, winds howl, homes turn to ash in minutes.
Who do we call in these moments, when hope feels like fiction?
Thoughts and prayers? They crumble like dry leaves,
While houseless numbers triple under the Winter Sun’s freeze. The fighters are few, their strength stretched thin,
Jailhouse volunteers can’t rival the flames’ ruthless spin.
Insurance retreats—policies denied, claims unspoken—
And the ones who survive are left shattered, broken.Floods rise, hurricanes roar, tornadoes strip the land bare.
How much destruction before climate change gets its share?
When do we face the truth staring us down:
The earth is on fire, and our leaders let it drown?Shelter is a myth for the ones disabled,
No ramps, no access—their survival disabled.
Fire, Earth, Air, Water—we’re crumbling, unbound,
Where is our Avatar to bring balance around? But heroes don’t come; we’re left to our fight.
Preparedness isn’t a dream—it’s a right.
Billionaires feast while the people burn,
The rubble rises, yet they never learn. Not Katniss to spark the flames of rebellion,
Not a Mockingjay’s cry, but the voice of a million.
We live in a nation conquered by greed,
An empire of Siths who plant poisoned seeds.Taxes drain us, sweat and blood flow,
And all we’re handed is a “thoughts and prayers” show.
But this is no act; this is our soil.
A history of neglect, injustice, and toil.Help us, America, stand with resolve.
This is not disaster; this is a wound long evolved.
Let us rise for the innovators and minds unborn,
To build a world where futures aren’t scorned. For if we wait, the fire will consume,
Leaving nothing but ash to scatter our bloom.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

A Late Bloomer's Promise
I made a pact with the mirror one day,
To stop hiding my dreams, to clear the way.
Pen to paper, my soul I’d bare,
Not just for me, but for others out there. For the foster youth who feel unheard, I’ll give them a voice, I’ll honor their word.
A guide, a light, to show what’s due, to teach them the power of “I deserve too.”This blog, this space-it’s more than a goal,
It’s the healing of hearts, the mending of souls.
A place where stories rise and thrive,
Proof that every struggle means we’re alive.I write my truths, I ink my fears,
Short stories, poems-through blood, through tears.
I signed a contract, sealed with resolve,
to grow through creation, to steadily evolve. They say I’m late, but I know my pace,
Dreams ain’t a race, it’s a journey to grace.
Even blooms in winter can break through the frost,
No time is wasted, no dream is lost.So here I stand, a see reborn,
A life once frayed, now no longer torn.
For those who need hope, I’ll always scream:
Even the late bloomer can chase their dream!Voting is closed

A World Rewoven
I will stitch a world from my verses,
Sewing these words of confidence into your hair like flower crowns of daisies.
To join these joints into sockets that would complete rivers. This isn’t the story of Pangea.
It’s the tale of a seam unbroken,
Where each chain stitch holds together pieces of pain and hope.A prick of sorrow, a stab of truth,
Threads unraveling, yet I sew them anew.Binding scars into patterns, weaving triumphs through the cracks,
Every loop and knot a map of survival—
A tapestry of me, of you, of us.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

Such a powerful picture and poem. I admire the amount of imagery there is in your writing, the way you tie the connection of the human body or society to nature. I feel as much as we neglect Mother Nature we dont seem to understand how our bodies is connected to nature.

Born of Stardust
During the Big Bang, I was born,
Stardust from the cosmos, fallen to earth.
Evicted from the sky—a shooting star,
No place to call home. When I reach for the heavens,
I’m still trying to return.I stood at the ocean’s edge,
Longing for the ripples to embrace me.
Crabs taught me their secret—
To float away on the tide.
I prayed for my find,
But no Ursula came to grant my wish. When I reach for the giant blue mass,
I’m still trying to return.Through forests alive with kaleidoscope hues—
Orange, red, and yellow flush my path.
Strong thoughts flood my mind,
A deep yearning to live amongst the leaves. In the trees, the birds perch on old branches,
Their wings whisper freedom—
A freedom I long to hold. When I reach for the tall oak,
I’m still trying to return.I’m still trying.
I’m still trying.
I’m still trying.Still trying to shed this human existence,
To finally be one—
One with the world around me.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

Wow such strong imagery! With me being an air sign I felt this deeply in my soul and visualized every parts of this poem! “Evicted from the sky-a shooting star, no place to call home” I feel like that’s why that famous quote comes to play “reach for the stars” cause we are our own stars. Thank you for this empowering remembrance!

The Duality of A Black Woman
I was strong… Loneliness so deep, like the sea.
I was strong—I didn’t need nobody.
I was so strong, I needed everybody.
I was strong enough to pass as Happy-Go-Lucky,
Even when the cracks showed under the weight. But strength, they say, isn’t always a gift.
Being “The Strong Black Woman”—what a cruel myth.
A title dressed in resilience but laced with chains,
Hiding the truth of my heart’s quiet pains.I was strong, even when they looked past me,
Strong, even when disregard was all they’d see.
Strong enough to hold the world,
Yet too strong to be held myself. They called me strong like it was praise,
But strength became my cage in so many ways.
No room for tears, no space for need,
Just a shell of power, a soul to bleed. But what of my vulnerability?
Why is softness seen as fragility?
I’ve learned that strength isn’t just standing tall,
It’s also knowing when to let yourself fall.I am both—strong and tender, bold and unsure,
A mixture of fire and water, pain and cure.
I am whole, not in spite of my duality,
But because I embrace all that makes me me.So don’t call me strong if it means I must break.
See me as human, for my own sake.
Strength isn’t a shield; it’s a choice to be free,
To honor both the strength and softness in me.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

This was Phenomenal.
It did start making me think of
“Room Where It Happens” from the musical Hamilton.I believe in one’s life we truly are the driver of our lifes car. Endlessly watching for many things, pedestrians , signs and other cars. You were able to Witness the Earths first veins, no matter where you were headed you knew your destination was on the Horizon.
I hope you continue to Love the Ride Your on. And forever be true to You as we grow like New Trees.

Tea, Strength, and Spring '24
In Philly’s vibe, where art’s alive,
Two friends meet, their spirits thrive.
Orange and black, red and white,
Colors dancing in the Sculpture Yard’s light.“What’s The Tea?” we came to see,
Where flavors soothe and set hearts free.
Tea like coffee, bold yet sweet,
A soulful moment, a perfect retreat. We spoke of power, women’s strength,
Of building bridges, going great lengths.
A sound bath wrapped us in dreams untold,
Spring’s fresh buds, life’s stories unfold. With strangers near, like Wonderland’s twist,
Sisterhood formed, a moment not missed.
Girl time healing, laughter flows,
In the simplest of acts, the magic grows.Always make time for tea, my dear,
A pause for love, for hope, for cheer.
In every sip, a spark can gleam,
In tea, we brew a brighter dream.Voting is closed

The Power Of No
I watched you from the shadows,
a quiet, steady beat.
You moved through the world
like the ground kissed your feet.I studied the curve of your laugh,
the shine in your eyes,
dreamt of moments we’d share,
but they were all lies.I was invisible, a ghost in the crowd,
a whisper, a breeze, never too loud.
But inside, my heart raged,
a storm I couldn’t tame,
trapped between silence
and the sound of your name.So one day, I stood tall,
my fear on display,
and told you the truth
in the boldest of ways.
But your smile held pity,
your answer a no—
a wound I expected,
but it still cut low.Yet from that “no,” I found my voice,
discovered in me, I had a choice.
No longer hiding in the cracks of the wall,
I became the light that burns through it all.Now I walk taller,
no fear in my step,
because loving myself
is the best move yet.You didn’t choose me,
but that’s okay,
I’ve learned to love me
in a brand-new way.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

Down the Rabbit Hole
Down the Rabbit Hole
I tumble through shadows, stars in my eyes,
A velvet night sky, where silence sighs.
The walls of the tunnel, alive with my past,
Moments like whispers, they flicker and flash.Sad times drip slowly, like tears from a stone,
Anger erupts where I stood all alone.
Laughter ignites like a flame in the dark,
Joy paints the void with a radiant spark.I see myself giving, my heart stretched thin,
Smilin’ for others while breakin’ within.
Each frame a story, each ache, each flight,
A kaleidoscope spinning in endless night. At the end of the tunnel, the cosmos unfolds,
Planets and universes, their mysteries untold.
A breathless horizon, a shimmering start,
A whisper that maybe, this time’s a new part.I land in the glow, a world vast and free,
A rabbit hole journey to rediscover me.Subscribe  or  log in to reply

Grandmother Willow
Grandmother Willow, Grandmother Willow, I come to you for your advice.
Can You Hear Me Through the breeze that sways within the trees? Like the leaves, I cling to you for life within your glorious crown.
Young Seedling, I am here for you. I heard your prayers through my roots. I learned of your struggle from the birds that land upon my branches.
Grand Mother Willow, Grand Mother Willow?
What will become of me? I want to be tall and beautiful. Someone the World can look up to. What Will Become of Me if the Woodsman Chops Me Down. Down to the Ground, I would fall, laying waste at his feet as he stepped over me like I was nothing. Grandmother Willow What Will Become of Me?
Dear Sapling, the squirrels tell me tales of your Love towards them, feeding them before the Winter Frost and granting praise to them. Dear Sapling, the rabbits tell me the poems of their Trust in you. As you lead them to safe havens so they can create their dens for their families. Oh sweet Sapling, the deer trot with Joy through the Woods, singing an old song of your Survival and Strength that You have Honored them with.
So, My Child Think Not of Tomorrow Because Your Presence is a Present to All those Young and Old, for the Owl of Wisdom Watches over You. She will Guide You to Become a Queen Worthy of Crowns of Adornment. And I, Your Grandmother Willow; will always shield you from the Storm of Self Doubt.
