  • Thank you so much! When I speak of “Maya” I’m speaking of “THE VOICE” of my generation and the ones before me and after Ms Maya Angelou. One of the greatest poets, and activists and writers of all time. She has always been a true inspiration and icon to me.

    • I LOVE Maya Angelou. I have a quote from her in my profile. She went through a lot as a little girl as well. I have read a few of her books. They all were amazing. She was so wise and so soft. <3 Lauren

  • Little Me

With a heart of adversity, we rise,
With faith as our compass, guiding our skies.
A remarkable journey, woven with grace,
A story of resilience, in life’s embrace.

Listen, little ME, to Maya’s voice,
As her spirit ignites, we find our choice.
In the waiting room, where courage is found,
Our story unfolds, with a resounding sound.

“Mountains Can’t Rise Without Earthquakes,” we both wrote,
Our memoir of triumph, where hope took note.
Through abandonment’s sting and violence’ plight,
We emerged, stronger, in love’s pure light.

In her words, our pain finds release,
As our own pen like Maya’s weaves a melody of peace.
With unwavering spirit, we faced the unknown,
At fourteen, homeless, but never alone.

Our faith, a beacon, steadfast and true,
In God’s embrace, we found strength anew.
Through trials and tears, we persevered,
Our spirit unyielding, our purpose clear.

For Maya taught us, in her timeless way,
That the human spirit can rise, come what may.
With each earthquake we faced, we grew,
Mountains emerged, and dreams came true.

So, dear younger self, worry not, my dear,
    Maya’s inspiration whispers, ever near.
In the moment’s of faith, find God and rest,
For the future is held, by God’s loving chest.

Let our story inspire, empower the soul,
As the spirit of Jesus takes its toll.
With resilience and hope, we’ll pave the way,
And touch lives, as Maya did, day by day.

In the rhythm of life, with Maya’s embrace,
We find strength, courage, and endless grace.
Our worries, we release, for God holds the key,
With Maya’s inspiration, we soar, wild and free.

    • Wow, Jacquiline! This was such a poignant and well-written poem. You left a lot to the imagination what you’ve overcome (homelessness and violence… OMG!), but it allows us to focus on the message at hand: It’s not the traumas that define you but how you rise from them. THANK YOU for sharing this beautiful poem with the community. You’re a…read more

    • Oh, Jacqueline, This is beautiful. It was so inspiring to read. I can also feel your soft and comforting personality in this piece. It was comforting to me. I am so sorry you dealt with such serious issues so young. You sure did rise, and gracefully at that. This piece is beautiful. Just curious if I interpreted the piece correctly. Is Maya your…read more

  • I Just Wrote Something

Broken by deceit, confused by the sorrow,
Wondering what life holds in the brink of the tomorrows,
Friends turn to foes, enemies unchained….
Running wild they start to crowd in the land of the untamed.
Like hamsters spinning on hamster wheels,
    Going nowhere fast,
    I can’t be delusional,
I have to leave them in the past.
    Who said everything should last?
    Anyway,
Reclaim your time, because if you weren’t meant to shine,
God wouldn’t have saved your life,
And the enemy wouldn’t always have you on his mind.
    More valuable than rubies,
    More precious than a pearl,
Do it for all the souls after you….
Every little boy and every little girl.
You were born a winner, don’t look at the aesthetics of your life,
You were destined for the life you have right now, you earned your position,
    Remember the pain and strife?
    You suffered so much,
That’s why your harvest will be plentiful.
You did your job, you put in the work,
    Check your fingernails….
    You see that dirt?
That’s called field hands, yet they look so clean….
    Just like Ruth baby….
    You had to glean.
But don’t you dare allow “them over there” 👉 to make you feel less than you are….
    Because the biggest eyes, 👀
    Tell the biggest lies,
    But if you didn’t shine…
How could they still see you enough to 🗣️ on you from afar?
    Stay true to yourself,
    Stand in your ROYAL POSITION,
    Because each time you’re mentioned,
    You’re the center of attention,
    And that only happens when
You have soooo much OIL IN YOUR KITCHEN!!!!
