The Rules

What

Write a poem about who you will be, what you want to do and how you have grown as the new year begins

Who

You must be over 18 and a member of The Unsealed Community. You can sign up for The Unsealed Here

*no relatives or employees on The Unsealed are permitted to enter

When

All Entries must be in by midnight on  Feb 1, 2022 Eastern Time

Our finalists will be chosen by our judges and be announced February 15th

Our winner will be announced March 2nd

Poem Requirements

  • Entries must be in English
  • They must be typed and e-mailed to contests@theunsealed.com
  • They must be true story about your life
  • The poem can’t mention anyone’s name except yourself (Example: you can call someone a friend, a neighbor, a teammate or a family member but you can’t call them by their name, John Smith)
  • The poem must be original writing from the person submitting the letter
  • The poem must not have been published anywhere else
  • The poem can’t can’t be defamatory toward another person
  • The poem must be less than 600 words
  • Only one entry per person
  • Include a headline for your letter and a photo that goes with your story

Rights

You will own the rights to your entry but by entering the contest you will give us permission/limited license to publish the letter and any pictures you provide on The Unsealed. You will also allow us to promote your entry on social media using your letter and the provided picture.

How it will be judged

Members of the media will judge the contest. They will narrow it down to a top entries. We will post the top entries. There will be two prizes. One for who gets chosen by the judges and a bonus prize for whoever gets the most votes from our community.

Member votes will count 5 times. Non-members can also vote by subscribing to our newsletter but their votes will only count once.

Each will receive a $150 prize.

What the Poem will be judged on

  • Organization that is logical and effective, is the poem easy to read and understand?
  • Creativity/originality, is there anything that makes this poem unique?
  • Message/insight – does the poem offer a thoughtful message?
  • Impact/Inspirational – is the poem and inspirational?
  • Accurately addresses the topic – does this poem share a message of resilience?
