From Flicker to Flame: A Letter to My Future Self
Dear Trinity,
I hardly recognize you—but in the most beautiful way.
There was a time when I felt like the world was too heavy, like I was walking through it alone with nothing but a flicker of hope tucked in my pocket. I doubted if we’d ever get here—to this place of purpose, of power, of knowing who we are and what we stand for. But you did it. You carried us through.
You turned pain into fuel. You made the foster kid they didn’t believe in into someone who speaks up, advocates, and educates. You made the girl who once felt too broken to dream become a force to be reckoned with—a legal mind in motion, a voice for the silenced, a glow that refuses to dim.
I remember sleepless nights. The questions. The anger. The fear of never being enough. But look at you now—writing your story, building your brand, preparing for law school, all while embracing the parts of us I was once ashamed of. Even our scars, you’ve learned to trace them like maps to our survival.
Thank you for not giving up on us.
Keep going. I may be your past, but I’ve never been prouder of our future.
With love,
Your old selfAnd if words weren’t enough…
I used to whisper to the stars
hoping they’d whisper back—
that somewhere ahead,
there was a version of me
who knew how to breathe
without holding her breath. And now I see you.
Not just surviving—
but glowing.I remember nights spent
talking to shadows,
writing dreams on the backs of late notices,
trying to be soft in a world
that never softened for us.
Back then, hope was a flicker,
faint, like a match held too long—
but you turned it into fire. You carry the stories
we were never supposed to tell.
You made strength out of silence,
wisdom from wounds,
and turned every “you can’t”
into a seed you planted
with your own two hands.Even now, I tremble
thinking of the girl who didn’t think
she’d ever be chosen,
yet here you are—
choosing yourself
again
and again
and again.I see you holding space
for the child you once were,
loving her with hands that once shook,
speaking for others
with a voice once silenced,
becoming everything
they said you wouldn’t
and more.You made power
out of all our pain.
You made peace
where there was once only survival.
And Trinity, you didn’t just grow—
you bloomed in the dark
and made the darkness your garden.I was the beginning,
but you—
you are the bloom,
the thunder,
the light they never saw coming.Keep glowing. Keep going.
The world hasn’t seen the best of you yet.By Glow AI.aka trinity mathews
