The ones represent a footnote literally and figuratively as footnotes are details authors add when there is other information that needs to be known and in this case sometimes authors & audiences may detach themselves from literature but this simple poem and simple footnote urge us to remember we (the audience) are as human as the author and just as we want and know we are deserving of respect, this author encourages us to extend that respect to our fellow person.

Personal addendum: we live in a world with a million and one boxes and labels and names and things that can(and often do) divide us, and I hope with with poem we can take a step outside of ourselves and our labels and recognize the humanity in each other, recognize the hurt we may cause each other, and try to heal that interpersonal relationship on a broad scale.
